The Ohio Northern University gallery program opens its 2013-14 art exhibition and gallery season at the Elzay Gallery of Art with an international traveling show titled “Monumental Ideas in Miniature Books Project (MIMB) II.” More than 100 unique and subtly created object books are featured in the second version of MIMB. The exhibit runs Sept. 3 through Oct. 25.
Hui-Chu Ying, professor of art at the Myers School of Art at the University of Akron, and its main exhibition space, the Emily Davis Gallery, coordinated this exhibition.
Diversity is what this exhibition is all about. Materials range from handmade and rice paper and plastic to tea bags, wood blocks and mailing envelopes. Techniques range from letterpress, silkscreen and digital prints to collage, die-cut and painting. The artists also represent seven different countries and cultures: United States, Canada, China, Japan, India, Pakistan and Spain.
MIMB II has arranged three North American circuits and one international route, with the purpose of promoting the work of local artists to a wide range of audiences, venues and cultures. New York, Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Texas, Georgia and Colorado, among other states, hosted this exhibition, starting simultaneously in July 2011 at Emily Davis Gallery and Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. The international route began at the National Taiwan University of Art, followed by the Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea.
MIMB II is a collaborative and educational project that is possible thanks to the contributions of committed artists and the support of important institutions in the U.S. and internationally.
Admission to the Elzay Gallery of Art is free and open to the public, daily from noon to 5 p.m. while school is in session. The Elzay Gallery of Art and gallery lobby is located on Gilbert Street on the campus of Ohio Northern University. The gallery is connected to the Wilson Art Center, the classroom-studio building that houses the Department of Art and Design.
