As school facilities to remain closed • No-contact period remains in effect at least until May 3

The Ohio High School Athletic Association informed member schools Monday, April 20, that spring sports are now cancelled, as Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced earlier in the day that school facilities will remain closed for the remainder of the academic year due to the coronavirus COVID-19. 

OHSAA Executive Director Jerry Snodgrass sent the memo to school administrators following Governor DeWine’s press conference.

ONU alum Ben Stahler and his wife making masks for zookeepers in Columbus

FROM OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY FACEBOOK -  With the recent discovery of a Bronx Zoo tiger testing positive for COVID-19 has led researchers to believe that the virus can spread from people to animals in some situations.

ONU alumnus and Mayor of Bellefontaine Ben Stahler, BSPh ’83, and his wife, Sara, who is a docent for the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, have sewn several masks to donate to zookeepers to keep both themselves and animals safe during the pandemic.

 

Some decisions made; some will be set later

Here's an update from the Ada schools, from the school website on April 21:

Ada Exempted Village Schools Yesterday the Governor announced that schools would remain in a distance learning situation for the remainder of the academic year. As a result, a few items should be communicated to our families and community:

 Graduation – in another week or so we will make a decision on graduation. We realize that the opening up of Ohio is going to be fluid and uncertain, but we hope to have a graduation ceremony to honor our seniors.

Ada High School's class of 2020 had the lights of Ada turned on last night for 20 minutes and 20 seconds. Here are some views of the high school and ONU stadium lights taken from the Ada Bulldogs Facebook.

In cooperation with Ada schools, the Ada Icon will post each of the Ada High School class of 2020 seniors in the spotlight. Leah Conley is today's senior in the spotlight.
