Dawn Jones, one of the 17 vendors at Ruthie's Boarding Room gift shop, 220 N. Main St., Ada, holds one of her new pieces at the shop. After a closed spring, Ruthie's joined several other Ada retail shops with a re-opening recently. Dawn sells vintage items, glassware and antiques. Ruthie's is open Wednesdays through Saturdays. Lydia Sorensen of Ada, earned bachelor’s degrees in accounting and mathematics from Bluffton University. The graduation took place in May.

 

Rick Keyes, Ohio Northern University pharmacy graduate (1992),  president and CEO of Meijer, will be the new chairman of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS). He was named Meijer's president and CEO in October, 2015. Keyes is pictured with ONU students on the campus of Ohio Northern University.

Martin Schaad, 99, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2020, at 6:37 p.m. at his residence in Harrod.

He was born on August 19, 1920 in Watkins, Iowa, to John and Selina Schaad.  On Dec. 24, 1947, Martin married Idelia Barnhart and she survives in Harrod.

Martin worked for Neon Signs in Lima. In his later years, he and his wife worked craft shows and enjoyed wood working. He enjoyed tending his garden. He was U.S. Navy veteran serving during WWII.

What do you remember about the Ada Dairy? The business was located at 309 S. Main St., across the street and near 302 Carry-Out. A popular hangout for college and high school students, it offered ice cream "concoctions," from its fountain service.

It also sold pasteurized daily products including cottage cheese, milk and butter. In 1953 its phone number was 164, according to its advertisement in the Ada Community Centennial book.
