ONU hosts Relay for Life Aril 19-20 - event is for entire community

ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULE AT THE BOTTOM OF STORY

Ohio Northern University will host Relay for Life on the tundra, beginning on Friday, April 19, at 6 p.m. The event is 18 hours long and the closing ceremony will be at noon on April 20. Immediately preceding the event, chicken dinners will be sold for $8 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Pepsi truck on the tundra.

18-hour event

This year, there are many fun activities planned throughout the 18 hours. A cornhole tournament will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the luminaria ceremony will start at 9:15 p.m. to honor, support and remember those who had or currently have cancer. A volleyball tournament will begin at 11:00 p.m. and a Euchre tournament will be at midnight.  Between 10:15 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. there will be free pizza and pop for all participants!

190 participants and 28 teams so far

As of April 4, ONU has 190 Relay participants and 28 teams. Combined, the teams have currently raised $8,931. Last year, ONU raised more than $20,000 for the American Cancer Society. The Relay for Life committee wishes to exceed last year’s total and encourages all students, faculty and community members to continue fundraising. If you have yet to sign up, you can go to www.relayforlife.org/onu to do so.

Relay for Life is an organized, overnight community fundraising walk in which teams of people take turns walking throughout the entirety of the event. According to the official Relay for Life website, “more than four million people in over 20 countries take part in this global phenomenon and raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer.”

Relay for the entire community

Relay for life is a community event – not just a campus event. We encourage all community members, especially survivors, to attend the event. In high school? Sign up a team! Involved in church? Sign up a team! There truly is something for everyone at Relay.

Come to ONU’s Relay for Life on April 19 to honor cancer survivors, remember lost loved ones, fight back against cancer, and have a great time.
