Kiwanis scholarship winners: Levi Klingler, Elizabeth Butterfield, Josie Corwin, Ian Crabtree

President Myrna McCurdy called weekly meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club to order at noon on Tuesday April 16th at McIntosh Center, ONU,

The birthday of member Dustin Brooks (April 18th) was noted.

The membership anniversary of Jolene Bailey (April 19, 2011) was also noted.

In business:
-Treasurer Bryan Marshall updated members on club finances.

-Secretary Brian Myers reported on the Kiwanis International Foundation’s Annual Gift Campaign.

-On April 3rd, the satellite club hosted the Ada Kiwanis Club’s induction of new members David MacDonald, Matt Crawford and Amanda Bennett

-The club’s ReStore meal is set for today. The club will be providing pancakes and sausage. Mark Light is in charge and will be cooking along with others.

-The Key Leader program is set for is April 26-28 in Ashley Ohio.  Two students, sponsored by the club, will be attending.

-The Nominations Committee presented the following slate of officers for the 2013-2014 Kiwanis year: President Heather Cox; President-Elect, John Berg; Vice President David MacDonald; Secretary, Brian Myers; Secretary Elect, Bill Fuller; Treasurer. Bryan Marshall; and board members: Charles Van Dyne, Sharon Mackenzie, and Joe Ferguson. The officers will assume their positions on October 1, 2013.

-Ada Kiwanis scholarships were awarded to the following graduating seniors from Ada High School: Levi Klingler, $1,000; Elizabeth Butterfield, $1,000; Josie Corwin, $500.00; and Ian Crabtree, $500.00.

-The annual Arbor Day will be celebrated on April 26th with Ada School with 3rd graders. The club will present a check for $500.00 to the Village of Ada for the planting of tree trees. This marks the 33rd year that the club has made the annual donation.

-The club will honor former Kiwanian Von M. “Spot” Spellman with the planting of a tree later this summer in War Memorial Park.

-The club will present to graduating members of ONU Circle K. Bill Fuller will present the certificates.

-The club agreed to support the Hardin County 4H program.

-Sandy Neely reported really needs help to support the Ada swim lessons. Please contact her to volunteer.

-Bob McCurdy reported that there is a student at ONU who has recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. There is a group getting ready to hold a pancake breakfast to provide some finances. The club agreed to support the request.

-Bill Fuller reported that ONU Circle K has been very active this year with trash pickups, and they are currently working on buying some items for an animal shelter). They will have a club picnic on Tuesday the 23rd at about 5:30 PM at the ONU Pavilion.

-Kiwanis Education Minute: In Dublin, Ohio statistics showed a high vehicle accident rate for teen drivers, so members in the community and Kiwanis got together and in 2007 started a Teen Driving Rodeo with a day of activities to teach teens safety while behind the wheel.  In 2009 the Kiwanis Club of Dublin adopted the rodeo as its signature event.
-Something to consider: Form”Live and Learn and Pass it On”, From a 44 year old, “I’ve learned that you can make someone’s day by simply sending them a little card.
