Senior Morgan Dumbaugh became the all-time career leader in points scored as the No. 3 Ohio Northern women's basketball team fell to No. 2 Hope (Mich.) 63-48 in the NCAA III Tournament Second Round on Saturday evening at DeVos Fieldhouse.
The Polar Bears conclude their season at 27-2, while the Flying Dutch improve to 28-1.
Dumbaugh sank a three pointer at the 4:01 mark of the first half for her 1,229th point, which is now the most in ONU women's basketball history.
She finished the game with a team high 16 points and a career high nine rebounds.
She concludes her career with 1,242 points.
Junior Cenzie Yoder chipped in with 15 points for ONU and senior Joanna Snyder finished with seven.
Courtney Kust paced Hope with a game high 21 points and Liz Ellis added 17.
A 6-0 spurt midway through the first half put the Flying Dutch up 15-8.
Dumbaugh's record breaking three cut the Hope lead to 21-13 and snapped a span of five minutes and 21 seconds without a point for the Polar Bears.
Hope would take a 30-20 lead into the half.
A basket by HC's Rebekah Llorens at the 13:44 mark gave the Flying Dutch a 40-26 advantage.
But Dumbaugh scored five points over ONU's next two possessions to cut Hope's lead to 40-31.
The Flying Dutch would come right back and use a 9-2 run to extend their lead back to 52-35 with 7:35 remaining and put the game away.
"I thought our half court defense was good tonight," said head coach Michele Durand. "We were able to stop them on the first shots, but couldn't get the rebound and stop them on the second and third tries."
The Polar Bears shot 15-of-44 (34.1 percent) from the field, while the Flying Dutch were 19-of-56 (33.9 percent).
Hope outrebounded ONU by a 46-27 margin, including 16-5 on the offensive glass.
The Flying Dutch also had 17 second chance points, compared to just seven for the Polar Bears.
"I am extremely proud of this team," Durand added. "These are the five best seniors I have ever had. Every player on this team should be proud of an unbelievable season."
