Bluffton author reads from his eco-thriller "Arctic Rising" March 14

The Ohio Northern University Department of English presents  Bluffton author Tobias S. Buckell in the Wishing Well at the McIntosh Center on Thursday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m. The Caribbean-born, New York Times best-selling author will read from his eco-thriller “Arctic Rising.”

The event is free and open to the public.

Buckell’s work has been translated into 16 different languages. He has published some 50 short stories in various magazines and anthologies and has been nominated for the Hugo, Nebula, Prometheus and Campbell awards.

Buckell moved to Ohio in 1995 after a series of hurricanes destroyed the boat on which his family lived. He graduated from Bluffton College in 2000 and, since 2006, has been a full-time author and freelancer. He splits his time between working behind the scenes for various blogs as an editor, copyeditor and writer. Influenced by science fiction writers, Buckell has written eight books.

“Arctic Rising” is about how global warming has transformed the Earth. The Arctic ice cap has all but melted, and the international community is racing desperately to claim the massive amounts of oil beneath the newly accessible ocean.

Enter the Gaia Corporation. Its two founders have come up with a plan to roll back global warming. They plan to terraform Earth to save it from itself. But in doing so, they have created a super weapon the likes of which the world has never seen.
