Ada's latest news

Fourteen painters honed their skills on Tuesday evening during the monthly PaintINN at The Inn. Here, instructor Marilyn Reed gives pointers to local residents Linda Staley (left) and Tammy Bryan. This month's picture featured a spring basket, which went with last month's two smaller paintings. Anyone can join the group anytime. The next meeting is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3. The art students also will meet during the summer. The cost of each lesson is $38, which includes all of the art supplies, a buffet dinner, and dessert bar.

"A Voice in the Dark: A Salem Story" is this spring's play put on by the Ada Drama Association at the high school auditorium. Curtain time is 7 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, April 15-17.

Told through the eyes of a teenager, the two-act play is a thrilling and poignant tale of one of the darkest eras in American history, the time of the witch trials in Salem, Mass., in the 1690s.

Peg Gordon, the director, called the 90-minute play "challenging" for the cast, which is composed of junior and senior high students. Amy Stover is assistant director.

The play was written by Elizabeth Downing.
