No. 9 women's basketball stays perfect in OAC play with 61-47 win at Capital

The No. 9 Ohio Northern women's basketball team extend their winning streak to 13 games with a 61-47 victory over Capital at the Capital Center on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Polar Bears are now 14-1 on the season and a perfect 8-0 in OAC play, while the Crusaders fall to 10-5, 5-3.
Senior Joanna Snyder led the way for Northern with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
Junior Cenzie Yoder added 13 points and nine rebounds and senior Morgan Dumbaugh scored 11.
Cookie Geroski led Capital with 12 points on the afternoon.
ONU never trailed in the contest and began the game with a 9-0 run.
After the Crusaders cut the Polar Bear lead to 11-7, ONU countered with a 14-2 run to push their lead to 25-9 with just over seven minutes left in the first half.
Senior Marissa Clark scored five points during the run, Snyder added four, Yoder scored three and freshman Brooke Espenschied chipped in with a basket.
ONU finished the half on an 8-0, capped off by a three pointer from Dumbuagh, to take their largest lead of the game at 41-16.
The Crusaders looked to mount a comeback in the second half and cut the Northern lead to 45-32.
But a hoop by Yoder and two free throws from Espenschied pushed the ONU lead back to 49-32 with 13:34 left to play.
Capital would make one more push, cutting the ONU advantage to 49-36.
The Polar Bears would come right back and put the game away with an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 57-36.
ONU was 24-of-55 (43.6 percent) from the field and a solid 9-of-10 (90 percent) from the charity stripe.
The Crusaders were 16-of-55 (29.1 percent) from the field and 14-of-21 (66.7 percent) in free throws.
Capital narrowingly won the rebounding battle, 38-37.
Ohio Northern will play again on Wednesday when they host Wilmington at 7:30 at the ONU Sports Center.
