The Ohio Northern University Center for Teacher Education received full reaccreditation for its undergraduate teacher training programs for seven years through the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
“The reaccreditation of our Center for Teacher Education by NCATE demonstrates our commitment to excellence in our teacher training programs and assures our current and future students that our education programs meet the highest state and national standards for academic excellence,” said Daniel A. DiBiasio, ONU president.
In its report on ONU’s Center for Teacher Education, NCATE cited that ONU has no areas for improvement relative to any of the required standards.
These standards are candidate knowledge, skills and professional dispositions, assessment system and unit evaluation, field experiences and clinical practice, diversity, faculty qualifications, performance and development, and unit government and resources.
The Center for Teacher Education is a community of dedicated faculty committed to providing quality instruction in the knowledge of the learner, knowledge of the discipline and knowledge of pedagogy.
When these areas of knowledge are integrated, the end result is an enabling teacher who can prepare students with diverse backgrounds and abilities to contribute both individually and cooperatively to the common good of the larger society.
Sandra Calvert, director of the Center of Teacher Education at ONU, said, “This national reaccreditation is affirmation of the high standards the education faculty has for ONU’s teacher preparation program and its students. We are honored to have our program recognized nationally with no areas for improvement. Schools and parents can be confident that our graduates have completed a program of excellence.”
Founded in 1954, NCATE is recognized by the U. S. Department of Education as a specialized accrediting body for schools, colleges and departments of education. NCATE and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) have consolidated and are now transitioning into the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
