Ada Kiwanis will assist in serving St. Mark's Christmas dinner

Here are the minutes of the lates Kiwanis Club meeting:

President Myrna McCurdy called the tenth meeting (December 4th, 2012) of the 2012–2013 Kiwanis Year to order at 12:00 noon in McIntosh Center, ONU.

Opening Gong/ My Country ‘Tis of Thee / Pledge of Allegiance
Invocation by Jon Umphress
Recognition of Guests/Members: Allie Puntel, ONU Circle K

Members’ Birthdays: Claudia Crawford, December 3rd; and Scott Wills, December 10th
Membership Anniversaries: Bruce Neely (December 1, 1975.)  

Treasurer Report (Bryan Marshall):
Admin. Acct.: $ 726.94
Projects account: $ 3,314.69
Investment (CD): $  3,067.21

The current net profit for the spaghetti dinner is $1,440.47.
$2,494.00 paid to Kiwanis International for dues.
$87.00 is due for Division 2 dues.

Secretary Report (Brian Myers): No Report

New Business:

  • We have been given the assignment for the basket room for the convention in Lima August. St. Mary’s will be joining us with this.  The first organizational meeting will be in January, date and time to be announced. Myrna and Jon will attend.
  • Christmas Benevolence: This item received considerable discussion. The choices centered on a donation to Restore, area families or both. Bob said that he would check with the school nurse to see if a list was available. He hoped that other club members “would step up to the plate” and delivered the donations. Jeff Schulman moved that a $250.00 donation be made to Restore for their Beacon Fund and $250.00 be given to needy families. Bill Fuller seconded the motion. MOTION CARRIED.

Old Business:

  • The Christmas Luncheon/Auction from Jeannie’s Kitchen will be held at the Ada Visiting Nurses Community Room on December 11th. There will be a full meal. The cost will be $10.00. The club will furnish coffee and drinks.
  • The club will provide a tip for Jeannie Previte. There are 30 reservations. Members are asked to bring donations (new or gently used) items for the Christmas gift auction. Joe will deliver books to Head Start. He will be joined by Santa and elf.
  • Christmas Benevolence: A $250.00 donation will be made to Restore for their Beacon Fund
  • Also discussed was that a donation be made to needy families. Bob McCurdy recommended that two families be assisted with a $259.00 donation each. Charles Van Dyne made a motion to accept the recommendation with a second by Mark Shull seconded the motion. MOTION CARRIED.
  • Gift cards will be presented to the families. Bryan and Meredith Marshall and Jon Umphress will assist with delivery.

Circle K Report: (Circle K Member or Bill Fuller) Allie Puntel and Katie Lorson reported that the boxes for Operation Christmas Child have been sent. They also noted that the club will be assisting with a Christmas dinner at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church next week and will have a holiday party of their own. 

Kiwanis Education Minute:  Kiwanis International Object 6: To promote justice, patriotism ad goodwill.

Something to consider: from “Live and Learn and Pass it on,” said by a 77 year old: I have learned that heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done regardless of the circumstances.”
