Joe Ferguson introduced his guest, Saiko Takeda who is visiting here from Japan for two weeks for an exchange program.
The birthday of Bob McCurdy (July 29th) was noted in song. The membership agreed that no Grammy awards would be presented for the performance.
In business:
-The club heard an updated financial report from Treasurer Bryan Marshall.
-The club will assist with the F&M Picnic pedal Tractor Pull. (August 11th), The pull will be held at the band shell.
-The Ohio District Kiwanis Convention will be held August 10th to 12th in Boardman. A silent auction basket as a fundraiser at the convention will be prepared.
-The club will participate in the Harvest and Herb Festival (third Saturday of September, (the 15th). We have a spot reserved.
-The final Division 2 meeting of the year will be held on Sept ember 26th in Lima. The purpose is to welcome the incoming Lt. Governor and an introduction of Jeff Schulman as Lt. Governor-Elect.
-Kiwanis Education Minute: In 1998, the Kiwanis International Board adopted the slogan “Serving the Children of the World” for use on Kiwanis letterheads, publications, and literature. This slogan does not replace the official motto of Kiwanis, “We Build,” but is intended to promote greater public awareness of Kiwanis’ primary service focus and worldwide scope.
-Something to Consider: About being Unlucky: Whether or not a black cat crossing your path brings bad luck depends… on whether you are a man or a mouse. Also, pity the unlucky person who looks forward all year to his vacation and then returns with mosquito bites over poison ivy on top of a sunburn.

Charles Van Dyne introduced Dean Paul, the head coach of Ohio Northern University’s (ONU) football program. He is beginning his 9th year as the head football coach of the University.
Charles relayed Dean Paul’s accomplishment in 2005 where ONU beat Mount Union and ended their 110 game winning streak. Paul spoke about his excitement for this year’s program and his overall coaching philosophy including the team’s mission statement involving the development of the student-athlete through responsibility, toughness, and discipline. He also explained the home opener on September 15th against Heidelberg will be Military Appreciation Day where the proceeds for the game will be given to the Wounded Warrior program, and he also discussed that the team will take a trip to Ireland in the spring.
President Harold Friesner then adjourned the meeting at 1:00 p.m.
The Ada Kiwanis Club meets weekly at 12:00 noon at McIntosh Center (Activities Room #7), ONU. Guests are always welcome.
