Learn from gardening experts at April 7 event

Hardin County Master Gardeners event / Registration deadline March 31

The Master Gardeners of Hardin County are hosting "April Showers Bring Garden Flowers" from 8:15 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at the Mid Ohio Energy Cooperative Community Room, located at 1210 W. Lima Street in Kenton, Ohio.

The registration deadline is March 31. The cost is $50.00 ($40.00 for active Master Gardener Volunteers) and includes continental breakfast, box lunch, handouts and door prizes. 

The first speaker is David McPheron who will speak on starting plants from seed, cuttings and division. Are you disappointed at the result? David will provide the steps to grow a plant to transplant size for your garden.

Steiner regales Rotary with Bluffton's crime of the century

Ada Icon founder Fred Steiner visited the Ada Rotary to provide a program called "Four Guys Walk into a Bluffton Bank and the rest is Bluffton Oral History." The four guys? John Dillinger and his gang. Where and when? Bluffton on August 14, 1933.

Steiner explains that one firsthand account was written down. Dozens of other oral accounts vary in their details.

Steiner sold the Bluffton and Ada Icons in 2021. He now writes a local history blog at www.BlufftonForever.com. These writings are also featured on Sunday on www.BlufftonIcon.com.

Clair Romick served in the U.S. Navy

Clair D. Romick, age 88, passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

He was born on January 13, 1934, on the family farm four miles northeast of Ada, to the late Roy Milton and Hazel Julia (Boutwell) Romick. On December 16, 1955, Clair married Beverly (Orders) Romick, and she survives in Alger. They are the parents of Kimberly (Rick) Bentz of Wellsville, PA, Abby A. (Greg) George of Findlay, and Roland “Rody” (Libby Palicki) Romick of McComb; ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

Gertrud Brown was a pediatric nurse

Gertrud T. Brown, age 96, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, March 6, 2022, in Lima, Ohio. She was born on January 11, 1926, in Wengern, Germany to the late Ernst and Gertrud (Liebermann) Gosemann. Gertrud married Randolph R. Brown of Kittanning, Pennsylvania in Berlin Germany on May 8, 1954. He proceeded her in death on December 2, 2006.

Third District Court of Appeals to hear oral arguments at ONU Law

March 15 in Tilton Hall

Ohio’s Third District Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments for two cases at Ohio Northern University on Tuesday, March 15 in Claude W. Pettit College of Law’s Tilton Hall, Room 129. At the conclusion of arguments, which will pertain to one criminal case and one civil case, the appellate judges will take questions from the audience.

The event will be free and open to the public. Business attire is required and observers must be seated by 9:40 a.m. Court will be in session at 10 a.m.
