ONU student podcast discusses State of the Union address

With President Biden’s State of the Union Address quickly approaching, ONU students analyze the history of these addresses and discuss what Americans can expect from Biden on February 7.

In a new un-CAPP it! podcast, Ohio Northern students Kennedy Aikey, Caleb Clayton and Hailey Trimpey examine the State of the Union Address. They explain the origin of the State of the Union Address and provide historical examples of well-regarded addresses. They conclude by providing some insight on what we can anticipate President Biden will discuss during his own address on February 7, 2023. 

Warren E. Fisher owner and stylist at Warren's Salon

Warren E. Fisher, age 67, of Lima, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at 3:15 p.m. at his residence, surrounded by family.   

He was born on December 15, 1955, in Kenton, Ohio to the late Warren J. and Betty R. (Decker) Fisher.

Warren is survived by his five siblings: Jacqueline Stephenson of Ada, Andrea Pifer of Ada, Martin (Diane) Fisher of Ada, Stacia (Mitch) Hall-Boughan of Ada, and Shawn Fisher of Columbus; lifelong friend, Bill Stoupe; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Executive session of Ada school board to be held February 7

At 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, the Ada Schools Board of Education will hold a Confidential Executive Session to consider the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion, or compensation of a public employee or official, or the investigation of charges or complaints against a public employee, official, licensee, or regulated individual, unless the public employee, official, licensee, or regulated individual requests a public hearing.

Carolyn L. Rex worked for Allen East Schools

Carolyn L. Rex, age 84, of LaFayette, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Vancrest of Ada. Our angel on earth is now our angel in heaven.

She was born on April 3, 1938 in Lima, Ohio to the late Robert and Diamond (Shrider) Klingler.  On June 8, 1957, Carolyn married Jack M. Rex and he survives in LaFayette.

Family was always first to Carolyn. She loved all children especially her grandchildren, and babysat for many years. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, and sewing. Her husband Jack never left her side.  Carolyn retired from Allen East Schools, where she worked as a cook in the cafeteria. She attended the Lima Community Church of the Nazarene.

Extended deadline for spring youth soccer: 11:30 p.m. February 7

The Ada, Ohio Soccer Association has announced on its Facebook group page:

Due to the amount of registrations we’ve received, we are extending late registration until 11:30 pm on Tuesday, February 7! Registration must be completed and payment received before this time. This will be the last chance to sign up until fall.

Hardin 4-H announces 2023 Achievement Award winners

Nine Hardin County 4-H members are being recognized as County Achievement Award Winners for 2023.  Achievement Awards are given to the top 4-H member in a project area based on the Ohio Achievement Record submissions.  All 11 award winning applications will be sent to judging at the state level to be considered for an Ohio Achievement Award, given to the top member in the entire state for a project area.
