Jim Turner named Distinguished Citizen of the Year; Fred Evans receives Ada Spirit Award

Two longtime Ada community leaders were honored at the Nov. 5 Town and Gown Banquet. The 47th annual event, held in an overflowing crowd at the McIntosh Center Ballroom, recognized Jim Turner as Distinguished Citizen of the Year for 2012 and Fred Evans with the Ada Spirit Award. In addition, many persons new to the community were introduced.

Earl L. Webb 1929-2012

Earl L. Webb, 83, died at 8:22 p.m. Nov. 3, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born Oct. 6, 1929, in Floyd County, Ky., to Wheeler and Lucy Snipes Webb, who preceded him in death. On May 19, 1978, he married Sandra Kay Spencer Whitaker, who survives in Harrod.

Mr. Webb was an engine lathe machinist and retired from Teledyne Ohio Steel of Lima after 29 years. He was a member of Harrod United Methodist Church; Lima Memorial Health System Auxillary; United Auto Workers union Local 975, Lima; Waynesfield Masonic Lodge 569 F&AM; LaFayette Order of the Easter Star Chapter 121; and Wapakoneta Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 691.

Carl E. Morrison 1923-2012

Carl E. Morrison, age 89, died Friday, November 2, 2012 at 2:15 AM at Hardin Hills Nursing Home, Kenton.

He was born on March 6, 1923 in McGuffey, Ohio to Earl and Erdene (Wies) Morrison and they preceded him in death. On July 27, 1947 he married Berniece L. Cockerell and she preceded him in death on April 22, 1990.

Carl retired from the Kenton City Schools after working for over seven years as a custodian. He was a member of the McGuffey Church of Christ, McGuffey. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served in 1943.

Support Veterans with Jerry Lewis’ McDonald’s Restaurants

Jerry Lewis’ McDonald’s Restaurants are celebrating and honoring  Veterans. On Monday, Nov. 12, Veterans Day, all customers can buy one Big Mac or Quarter Pounder with Cheese and get a second Big Mac or Quarter Pounder with Cheese for just 12 cents, at any of Jerry Lewis’ McDonald’s restaurants.

In addition, Jerry Lewis’ McDonald’s will honor veterans by making a donation to a local veteran’s organization for every Big Mac and Quarter Pounder with Cheese sold on Monday the 12th.
