Dana George Staley was a U.S. Army veteran

Dana George Staley, age 77, of Harrod, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, surrounded by his family.

He was born on December 4, 1945 in Bluffton, Ohio to the late Russell and Winifred Colleen (Mason) Staley. Dana was married to Pamela (Kinsey) Staley in September 1985; she survives in Harrod.

Rodney Scott was a U.S. Army veteran

Rodney Albert Scott, age 71, of Alger, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Lima Memorial Health System, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Kenton, Ohio on January 7, 1952, to Alfred and Lydia (Risner) Scott.  His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Rushylvania.  Rodney married Manuela “Nellie” Mirelez, she preceded him in death on October 21, 2022.

Rodney is also survived by his two sons: Jason Scott of Alger, and Rodney Scott II of Huntsville; eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren; a brother, Larry (Mary) Scott of Zanesfield; and a sister, Terri (Rod) Sommers of Rushylvania. 

Ada’s Baumgartner qualifies for butterfly and backstroke state finals

CANTON–Two Ada High School swimmers competed well in the preliminary heats of the Division II state meet at the C.T. Branin Natatorium Thursday night, February 23.

Ada sophomore Lily Baumgartner advanced to two top-eight A Finals races Friday evening, qualifying in both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.

ONU women's basketball advances to OAC finals

Senior Brynn Serbin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) made two free throws with five seconds left to send the No. 18 Ohio Northern women's basketball team to a 52-51 victory over Otterbein in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals at the ONU Sports Center, February 23.

With the win, the top-seeded Polar Bears (22-4) advance to the OAC Tournament finals to face No. 2 seed Marietta (20-6), which defeated third-seeded Baldwin Wallace 71-65 in Thursday's other semifinal.

Northern will host Marietta in Saturday's championship game at 2 p.m. This marks ONU's first OAC Tournament finals appearance since the 2018-19 season.

682 citations issued in Ohio during I-75 enforcement project

COLUMBUS–The Ohio State Highway Patrol joined forces with other members of the 6-State Trooper Project to focus on speed, safety belt and OVI enforcement on Interstate 75. During the project, 682 people in Ohio were issued citations including 618 for speed and 52 for safety belt violations. Additionally, 12 people were cited for OVI.

Summary of February 21 regular Ada Council meeting

Following Ada Police Department lifesaving awards (reported HERE), the February 21 regular meeting of the Ada Chamber of Council commenced at about 6:48 p.m. All councilors were present: Sean Beck, Jason Campbell, Sheila Coressel, Linda Mason, Jeff Oestreich and Bob Simmons.

Two claims registers were passed unanimously following some discussion, which included an inquiry about and EKG stress test bill--which proved to be for the new police chief, Alec Cooper, the need for new gutters and downspouts on the Public Works barn, and staffer Michelle Hall attending the upcoming Hardin County Leadership course.
