Steinbrunner named OAC women's indoor track & field runner of the week

Senior Alison Steinbrunner has been named OAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Runner of the Week.

At the OAC Indoor Split Meet on Friday, she won the 1,000 run in 3:02.83.

Steinbrunner also was part of the DMR team that took first place with a time of 12:22.27.

The Polar Bears finished second of five teams in the meet with 138 points.

Ohio Northern will return to action on Saturday when it hosts the Joe Bank Invitational. Field events begin at 11 a.m. with track competition starting at noon.

Kyle Kwiat named OAC wrestler of the week

Senior All-American Kyle Kwiat has been named OAC Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season.

He also earned the honor for the week of January 14.

On Saturday, at the Alma (Mich.) Open, Kwiat won the 174 pound weight class.

He recorded a pin and two tech falls on his way to the title.

On Tuesday, Kwiat recorded a 17-0 (3:00) tech fall as the Polar Bears topped John Carroll 42-4.

Kwiat is ranked No. 1 at 174 pounds and has a team best record of 27-3 on the season.

No. 18 Ohio Northern will be in action again on Tuesday when it hosts No. 30 Mount Union in a key OAC dual at 7:30 pm.

Ada Bingo set for Thursdays in February

Ada Bingo plays every Thursday at the Alumni N-men’s building in downtown Ada.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; Bingo begins at 6:55 p.m.

Ada Bingo uses new, radio-controlled electronic machines, as well as, traditional paper
packages.

Proceeds from Ada Bingo benefits the Ada Lion's Club and Ada Music
Boosters.

Keriazes wins three times but men's swimming & diving falls to no. 13 Case Western

Senior Drew Keriazes won three events on the afternoon, but it was not enough as the Ohio Northern men's swimming & diving team dropped a 185.8-110.5 contest at No. 13 Case Western Reserve on Saturday afternoon at Veale Natatorium.

The loss drops the Polar Bears to 10-2 overall, while the Spartans improve to 13-2-1 overall.

Keriazes won the 100 breaststroke in 59.12 seconds and the 200 breaststroke in 2:11.16.

He also touched first in the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.21.

Women's swimming & diving falls at Case Western Reserve 175-123

The Ohio Northern women's swimming & diving team fell to Case Western Reserve by a 175-123 score on Saturday afternoon at Veale Natatorium.

Northern now stands at 7-6 on the season, while the Spartans improve to 7-9.

The Polar Bears has the top two finishers in the 100 backstroke.

Freshman Lindsey Inkrott touched first in 1:02.18 and freshman Allison Lohnes was second with a time of 1:02.90.

Inkrott also won the 200 backstroke in 2:15.97.

Senior Amy Elmer won the 1-meter diving, posting a score of 236.65, while sophomore Katherine Lorson was second with 167.80 points.

Men's basketball drops 69-60 contest to Marietta

The Ohio Northern men's basketball team fell by a 69-60 score to Marietta on Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears now stand at 8-11 overall and 4-8 in OAC play, while the Pioneers improve to 14-5 overall and remain tied atop the OAC with a 10-2 mark.

Junior Jared Horstman led Northern with 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Senior Taylor Kuhlman added 12 points and junior Branden Rushton, who battled foul trouble for the majority of the game, finished with 10.

J.J. Martin led Marietta with 17 points, while Tyler Hammond and Jacob Owens each finished with 10.
