Purple-gold and black-orange ribbons

The ribbons are on Main Street! Purple and gold for Ada High School and orange and black for Ohio Northern University. The ribbons are up in time to congratulate all senior graduates this spring.

ONU’s micromouse team takes third at regional conference

Ohio Northern Engineering micromouse team captured third place at the Region 2 IEEE-Student Activities Conference hosted by University of West Virginia in Morgantown on April 20. Region 2 covers Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, southern New Jersey, Ohio (except Toledo), Pennsylvania, northern Virginia, and West Virginia.

In a micromouse robotics competition, teams construct an autonomous robotic “mouse” that navigates to the center of a random maze from a specified corner in the shortest amount of time possible.

Ohio Northern University students honored with Dankook Award

Ohio Northern University presented Dankook Awards to Jennifer Krauss, a senior mathematics major from Pickerington, Ohio, and Sean McKee, a sixth-year pharmacy major from Salem, Ohio, at ONU’s Honors Day on April 27.

Presented since 1974, the Dankook Award is an annual reciprocal award exchanged between Dankook University in South Korea and Ohio Northern University. The award recognizes students with outstanding records in academics, student leadership, co-curricular activities and service.

Iron Man showing at Ada Theatre

Iron Man 3 will be showing at Ada Theatre from Thursday, May 2 until Thursday, May 9.  The movie is rated PG-13.

Eugene Shepherd, 1934 - 2013

Eugene Shepherd, age 78, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 9:23 a.m. at his residence in Alger.

He was born on December 11, 1934, in Floyd County, Kentucky, to George and Lucie (Moore) Sheperd. His father preceded him in death. His mother survives in Cridersville.

He first married Venice Combs and she died on September 1, 1998. He then married Isana Kay Williams on February 12, 2001, and she survives in Alger.

Eugene retired in 1981 after working 20 years as a welder for International Car of Kenton. He attended the United Baptist Church of Alger.

Norman Ray Evans, 1950 - 2013

Norman Ray Evans, age 62, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 9:22 p.m. at his residence in Alger, Ohio.

He was born on July 26, 1950 in Lima, Ohio to Raymond & Thelma (Schaub) Evans who preceded him in death. On April 6, 1968 he married Peggy Sue (Fetter) Evans and they are divorced.

Norman was a self-employed painter.
