Eight Hardin 4-H youth in state fair rabbit skillathon

119 youth from all over Ohio participated in the Ohio State Fair rabbit contests. Of those 119, eight were from Hardin County youth. The competitions included Rabbit Skillathon, Breed Identification, Judging and Showmanship. In the Judging contest, youth judged four rabbits of four different breeds against the American Rabbit Breeders Association Standard of Perfection and placed each according to compliance with the standard.

Hardin County Farm Bureau annual meeting Aug. 22 in Mt. Victory

The Hardin County Farm Bureau annual meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 22 at The Plaza Inn Restaurant in Mt. Victory.  

A reception will begin at 6 p.m. for a brief social hour and dinner will be served promptly at 6:30 p.m. Following dinner a brief business meeting, voting, recognitions and awards will take place. 

Guest speaker will be Mike Pullins, Community Liason for Everpower Renewables.  All Farm Bureau members are invited to attend.  Active members (farmers) will be voting on proposed resolutions, a code change, new trustees, and delegates.
    

Thomas L. Spencer, 1932-2013

Thomas L. Spencer, age 80, died Saturday, August 3, 2013 at his residence in Harrod, Ohio.

He was born on September 5, 1932 in Hardin County, Ohio to Myrel T. and Thelma Beartrice (Gossard) Spencer, and they preceded him in death.

Thomas was a farmer and he retired from the Ford Motor Company, Lima where he worked on the assembly line. He was a graduate of Roundhead High School in 1950. He was a member of the Hog Creek Game Club and of the UAW Local #1219 of Lima.

Harry Potter, family game night, Zumba intro and more in August at the Ada Public Library

Several special events take place at the Ada Public Library in August, according to Amanda Bennett, library director.

The library will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the the release of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" on two days. On Friday, Aug. 23, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. is a Harry Potter read-in and ice cream social.

"We're celebrating the 15th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by encouraging folks of any age to stop in, plop down, and read a Harry Potter book. The library will have lots of copies available for checkout that day. Anyone still here at 5 p.m. is more than welcome to join," said Bennett

Last chance to swim in the Ada pool this week

This week is your final chance of the summer to dive in, go down the slide, do lap swims or simply sit in the sun at the Ada swimming pool.

The pool season sends on Saturday, Aug. 10, which coincides with the Ada Farmers and Merchants picnic. Admission on Saturday, during the picnic is $1.

The pool is open this week each day from 1 to 8 p.m., weather permitting. Daily admission (except on Aug. 10) is $3.

Adults have a final chance for lap swims on Wednesday and Friday from noon to 1 p.m. Toddler swim is also at that time. Admission is $1.
