Santa and lots more happening in Monday's "Merry on Main"

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce launches Ada’s holiday season with its first-ever “Merry on Main,” Monday, Dec. 2, according to Deb Curlis of the chamber.

The community holiday lights that are traditionally located in the Ada Park, this year will decorate the Depot Park downtown.

The depot area will have over 18,000 lights, which will be turned on for the first time on Friday, Nov. 29.

Then from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday “Merry on Main” takes center stage. The evening includes a visit from Santa Claus. Photos with children on Santa’s lap will be available for $2 each.

Four handmade holiday workshops at HealthChek

HealthChek, 117 S. Main St., Ada, announces the its Handmade Holiday Workshops on Saturdays, Nov. 30, Dec. 7, 14 and 21.

Every Saturday between Thanksgiving and Christmas from 1-2 p.m. attendees will create a spectacular and unique item for themselves or perfect for that holiday gift giving. 

HealthChek, a nutrition store now offering local art and handmade items created by local artisans, invites you to come and join the creative excitement explosion by making some fun and festive holiday creations and check out what’s new in the store.

Sophomore Allison Lohnes named OAC Women's Swimmer of the Week

Sophomore Allison Lohnes has been named Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week for the Week of Nov. 11-17.

On Friday, Lohnes won twice to lead Ohio Northern in a 153-81 non-conference loss at Wittenberg.

She won the 200 I.M. in 2:17.50 and the 100 back in 1:01.64.

This is the second consecutive week that an ONU athlete won the award after freshman Jill Chapman was named on Nov. 11.

Ohio Northern will return to action Dec. 5-7 at the Wooster Invitational.

Ohio Northern University sets record with 94 percent placement rate of 2013 graduates

The Polar Careers Office at Ohio Northern University has announced a record 94 percent placement rate for students who graduated in 2013 according to its six-month assessment report. The new mark is up 2 percent from last year for those students who reported placement.

Ninety-six percent of the class of 2013 participated in the placement report; this number is up 3 percent from last year and sets a new standard for ONU.
