Icon collecting list of individuals and businesses involved in snow removal

Ad Icon is collecting names of businesses and individuals involved in snow removal.

With a list available we want individuals in the community to have a resource when the next heavy snowfall hits the community.

The list will assist individual homeowners who need sidewalks, driveways and other areas removed of snow.

Once compiled, the Icon will post this list at no charge. Businesses and individuals wanting to be listed should send the following information to: [email protected]:

Red Cross blood drive today at Visiting Nurses

Ada's first American Red Cross blood drive of the year is Monday, Jan. 13. The drive takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Ada Visiting Nurses and Hospice, 1200 S. Main St. Ada.

The second blood drive of the year is Monday, Jan. 20, at Ohio Northern University's McIntosh Center. The drive is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Red Cross Offer Winter Safety Tips

The American Red Cross is urging area residents to take precautions following the severe winter weather impacting the local area this week. Millions of people from the Midwest to the Northeast are facing extremely cold temperatures, high winds and heavy snow over the next few days. The Red Cross is watching the storm and prepared to respond if necessary.

“People should check in on their neighbors and use caution as record lows hit our area,” said Todd

James, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Hancock, Seneca and Wyandot Counties.

Braden Rushton OAC men's player of the week

Senior Branden Rushton  has been named OAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

In three games over the past two weeks, Rushton averaged 25.7 ppg.

On Dec. 29, he scored 21 points and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds in Northern's 102-69 win at Cal Tech.

On Dec. 31, Rushton set a new career-high with 31 points on 12-of-18 shooting, leading the Polar Bears past Chapman (Calif.) 86-82.

Rushton also scored 25 points in ONU's 73-68 loss to Trine (Ind.) on Saturday.

He currently leads the OAC in scoring (19.5 ppg) and in three point shooting percentage (.583).

ONU women's soccer team receives team ethics and sportsmanship award

The Ohio Northern women's soccer team has been named as a silver recipient of the College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

The award recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season.

In order to qualify for the silver honor, a team must receive no red cards and accumulate no more than five yellow cards over the course of the season.
