Bulldogs sweep USV in track dual

The Ada High School track and field teams swept rival Upper Scioto Valley in a dual meet Monday evening, April 3, at War Memorial Stadium.

The Bulldog boys swamped USV 78-13, and the Ada girls beat USV 83-51.

Ada junior Mariah King won the 300 hurdles and the high jump events to pace the Bulldogs.

Kevin Smith won the shot put and the discus events to pace USV.

Katherine Johnson worked for Upper Scioto Valley High School

Katherine J. “Kack” Johnson, age 92, of McGuffey, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023, at 12:20 a.m. at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

She was born on June 21, 1930, in McGuffey, Ohio to the late Okey and Cloie (Jordan) Risner.  On August 13, 1950, Katherine married James Johnson and he preceded her in death on February 8, 2017.

Council agenda for April 4 meeting

The Village of Ada council will hold a regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4 in council chambers on the second floor of the Ada Municipal Building, 115 W. Buckeye.

Two resolutions and seven ordinances will be reviewed for council approval. 

Committee reports previewed are:

• Recommendation for hiring cashiers and lifeguards for the 2023 pool season.

• Recommendation for hiring assistant pool manager.

• Approval to waive storm sewer tap fees for 1 year after the completion of Grandview Boulevard Reconstruction Project.

• Request of the Village to reduce or waive the storm sewer tap fee for Wilson Sporting Goods new manufacturing plant.

Administration reports previewed include:

• Ohio’s new driving while texting law.

Sophomores awarded 117th annual Interclass prize

On Friday, March 31, the sophomore class of Ada High School won the 117th annual Interclass competition. The sophomores were represented by (L-r) Aidra Preston, essay; Ben Burkheimer, poetry; Aubrey Pope, poetry; and Jillian Allison, dramatic reading. Stay tuned for an Iconoclast View on being introduced to the AHS tradition.
