Summary of June 20 Ada Council Meeting

The Ada Council met for a regular meeting on the evening of June 20 with Mayor David Retterer presiding and council members Sean Beck, Jason Campbell, Sheila Coressel, Jef. Oestreich and Bob Simmons present. The absence of Sheila Mason was excused by a motion from council.

Three claims registers were unanimously approved by council including 2023-12A in the amount of $285,445.82, 2023-12B in the amount of $69,933.71 and 2023-12C in the amount of $34,654.99.

Take note of a new information board in Depot Park

Ada's Depot Park has a new feature that will provide a space for village notifications regarding the park and other community messages. Currently on display is a list of Civil War veterans from Liberty Township. The structure was made by the grandson of Ric Johnson as an Eagle Scout project.

11th annual Hardin County Sports Hall of Fame recognizes individual and team excellence

KENTON--The Hardin County Sports Hall of Fame held their 11th annual banquet on Saturday evening, June 17, 2023 at the St John's Church in Kenton.  Six individuals and one team were enshrined as members of the "Class of 2023."  The evening started with a catered dinner and two local student/athletes garnering scholarships for their work in the classroom, community and athletic achievements.

Ohio Airport System Plan virtual public meeting July 19

COLUMBUS – Ohio’s 104 public use airports generate billions of dollars for the state’s economy each year. The Ohio Department of Transportation is asking for the public’s help as it begins a comprehensive analysis and overview of airports to help identify needed improvements for future growth and sustainability.

The Ohio Airport System Plan (OASP) is updated every 10 years. The last report, released in 2014, found the airport system supports more than 123,000 jobs and produces an economic impact that exceeds $13 billion annually.

One of the goals of the plan is to provide the ODOT Office of Aviation and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) a methodology for prioritizing and funding airport development projects.

Elks Invitational Swim Meet and WOAL Championships, July 7-8

More than 500 swimmers and their families will descend on Kenton on July 7-8, for the 41st annual Elks Invitational Swim Meet and Western Ohio Aquatics League (WOAL) Championship. The WOAL meet is for swimmers aged 5-18 who are members of a league team.

The Kenton Municipal Swimming pool is the host site for the even, which will host teams from Ada, Bluffton, Findlay, Kenton, Shawnee Country Club, Wapakoneta, Westside and Van Wert. These eight teams will compete for the 2023 league title.  

Plenty of Johnny Appleseed events still to go in June

Upcoming Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park district opportunities include the following ampitheater, archery, youth fishing derby, firebugs and critter feeding events.
