By Cort Reynolds

The Ada girls soccer team placed seven players on the All-North Central Ohio Soccer Association teams in voting recently conducted by the league coaches.

Second-year head coach Doug Dewese was voted North Central Ohio Soccer Association Coach of the Year.

He led Ada to a program record-tying seven wins and a 7-5-3 overall regular season record. The Bulldog girls were 2-2-1 in the rugged NCOSA to finish third out of six teams, believed to be the best league finish in team history.

Ada senior Ella Marshall repeated again as first team All-North Central Ohio Soccer Association for the fourth straight season.

She broke her own Ada program single-season record with 19 goals, and she also set the mark for career goals with 50.

Healthwise: There is a Season

By Karen Kier

In 1959, Peter Seeger wrote To Everything There is a Season, which was released by the folk group the Limeliters. Seeger then released the song himself a few months later. Neither version had much success until Roger McGuinn (aka Jim McGuinn) of the Limeliters formed the Byrds.

The Byrds released their version on October 23, 1965 and it hit number one in December. The title changed to Turn! Turn! Turn! for the release. The song holds the record for the oldest written lyrics because the verses are from Ecclesiastes in the Bible.

The Byrds formed in 1964 in Los Angeles with five members. Some music critics consider the band one of the most influential of its time. Several of the original members left to form other groups or have solo careers. One of the more famous members of the original group was David Crosby, who we lost in 2023. The last time the original group played together was in 1991 when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

As the leaves are changing, so do our seasons including issues related to politics and health.

Letter: Retired Ada teacher on Permanent Improvement Levy

As a teacher in the Ada Schools for forty-three years and a lifelong Bulldog, I am asking you to vote FOR the upcoming permanent improvement RENEWAL on the November ballot. This issue is a RENEWAL only and will NOT increase anyone’s tax burden. A vote FOR this issue is a vote FOR our children.

The money this levy generates allows the Ada Schools to purchase those items of a permanent nature that are not part of the day-to-day expenses of the school.  It is not used for salaries, benefits or any items of that nature.  This levy passed and has been renewed each time it has appeared on the ballot since 1995. The Ada Schools appreciate your support on this issue.

Sincerely,

Dave Lusk
Ada Schools, retired
