Ada Board of Education welcomes two new members

On January 8 the Board of Education of the Ada Exempted Village Schools (AEVS) held their annual reorganization meeting. 

Two new board members were sworn in, Troy Erikson and Justin Hollon. Ron Fleming was elected as board president and Ted Griffith was elected as vice president. The fifth member of the board is Matt Gossman.

Fleming and Erickson were also named to a policy committee. Meetings for this committee will be announced in advance.

The members agreed to continue meeting on the third Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m. The regular January meeting will be held at noon on Saturday, January 20. 

As discussed at meetings in late 2023, the school is now required to provide a second preschool classroom, which has been used for storage.

Buckeye East test drives Winter Farmers Market on January 20

Not long after Ada rang in the New Year, the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce asked Facebook viewers what developments they'd like to see in 2024. Those who said "A farmers market!" are getting their wish.

Amber Simon has announced that Buckeye East Coffee Shop will host a winter market with a trial run from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20. 

Jones leads AE girls basketball to rare MLK Day road trip win

PLAIN CITY__The Allen East girls basketball team made the long trip to face a new foe in Div. II Jonathan Alder on Martin Luther King Day Monday afternoon, January 15.

(January 10) BEREA__The Ohio Northern women's basketball team fell at No. 25 Baldwin Wallace 67-58 in a battle of league unbeatens on Wednesday night.

Bulldog boys basketball loses grudge match to USV

McGUFFEY__The visiting Ada High School boys basketball team fell behind early and lost 73-46 to backyard foe Upper Scioto Valley in their traditional rivalry contest Saturday night, January 13, at Alumni Fieldhouse.

The Bulldogs dropped to 2-10 with the non-conference defeat. USV improved to 6-5 after the grudge match win.

Bulldog girls swim team 7th at Celina Invite

Lily Baumgartner wins 2 races

NEW BREMEN__The Ada High School girls swim teams finished a solid seventh at the 16-team Celina Invitational held at the New Bremen YMCA Saturday, January 13.

Junior standout Lily Baumgartner won the 100-yard butterfly (58.32) and 100 backstroke (61.84) races to compile 32 of the 65 Bulldog girls points.

The Bulldog boys finished 12th out of 16 teams with 26 points. Ada finished 10th in the combined girls/boys team standings.

Ottawa-Glandorf swept both the boys and girls team titles. O-G edged St. Marys 274-268.5 for the girls crown. The Titan boys also beat out the second-place Roughriders 229-204.5 to claim first.

O-G won the combined teams event championship, with St. Marys second and Wapakoneta third.

“We had a few minor errors due to slippery blocks and walls, but I feel they adapted well and did the very best they could,” said Ada head coach Ashley Robey.
