Really BIG check presentation from Ada Elementary to Ada Food Pantry

Readers at Ada Elementary School made a really big check presentation to the Ada Food Pantry on May 3. Not only did the check reach from the readers’ knees to their chins, it also gifted a whopping $2,893.00 to the local nonprofit organization.

May chamber meeting is an evening mixer

The May 2023 Ada Area Chamber of Commerce membership meeting will be an evening social rather than an early bird breakfast. Members are invited to the patio at The Inn at Ohio Northern University on Wednesday, May 17 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. 

Organizers note, "We will be sharing details of our summer events and hear updates from our members who attend."

Among details expected is a preview of the upcoming May 18-20 Summer Sidewalk and Community Garage Sales event.

Ada, recently we have taken a few reports where outbuildings have had items stolen from them. Just as a reminder please try to keep all buildings secured and if possible, well lit.

New EAP resource for small businesses

May 25 webinar provides information on EAP benefit program

KENTON-—A new program for small businesses will mean access to valuable counseling and recovery services for thousands of employees across the region. The Mental Health and Recovery Services Board is partnering with New York-based ENI to provide free EAP (Employee Assistance Program) services to small businesses across Hardin, Allen and Auglaize counties.

The pilot program will target businesses with fewer than 100 employees, offering them one free year of access to NexGen EAP Plus benefits. This program would give their employees access to a variety of resources, ranging from health insurance advocacy to a nationwide network of more than 40,000
counselors.

AHS 2023 musical: A darkly entertaining Matilda

In late April, Ada High School presented three performances of Roald Dahl’s Matilda, the Musical. The play is a darkly entertaining take on parent-child relationships and school days. The names of musical numbers reflect the cynical tone: “Naughty,” “Chokey Chant,” “Smell of Rebellion,” “Revolting Children.”

The musical was directed by teachers Scott Henning and Carter Bivens.

Physical activity is important in all stages of life, pregnancy included! Many women desire to adopt a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy or maintain their current fitness level. In most cases, this is achievable and desirable for the overall health of mom and baby. Here are 10 tips to keep in mind to have a fit pregnancy. 

Talk with your provider
Most pregnant women can exercise! In the absence of medical complications, physical activity in pregnancy is safe and desirable. In fact, inactivity and excessive weight gain have been recognized as risk factors for pregnancy complications. 

Consider modifications to your current exercise regimen
Your body will be going through major changes as your pregnancy progresses, including weight gain and a shift in your center of gravity. Balance and posture are affected. Exercises that have been extensively studied and found to be safe in pregnancy include walking, stationary cycling, aerobic exercises, dancing, resistance exercises, water aerobics and swimming.

Bulldog baseball nipped by P-G

The Ada High School baseball team lost a taut 2-1 pitcher’s duel to visiting Pandora-Gilboa in a non-league game Saturday, May 13, at War Memorial Park.

The Bulldogs fell to 8-14 with the defeat that ended a four-game win streak.  

Ada's Jameson 2nd at tennis sectionals

Ada senior tennis ace Brendan Jameson finished a strong second in Saturday’s Div. II sectionals in Lima at the UNOH courts.

Seeded second, he got a first-round bye in the 30-player singles flight, and then rolled to the semis with two decisive wins Thursday.

Ada’s Brown captures high hurdles at NWC track meet

The Ada High School track and field teams competed at the annual nine-team Northwest Conference championship meet Thursday, May 11 and Saturday, May 13 in Delphos.

Ada junior Jackson Brown won the boys 110-meter high hurdles league championship in 15.98 to post the top Bulldog finish.

Columbus Grove captured the boys and girls league crowns, while Bluffton took second in both team standings.

The Ada girls finished eighth, while the Bulldog boys came in ninth.
