School board to hold March 1 executive session

The Ada Board of Education will hold a confidential executive session to consider the employment of a public employee or official at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1.

Women's golf finishes second of eight in Music City Shootout

JOELTON, Tenn.—The Ohio Northern women's golf team finished as the runner-up in the eight-team Music City Shootout on Sunday at Nashville National Golf Links.

The Polar Bears (48-4 overall) shot a second-round 326 on Sunday after shooting 337 on Saturday for a final score of 663 in the 36-hole tournament, which was hosted by Rose-Hulman (Ind.)

ONU women defeat Marietta 60-45 to win OAC basketball tournament

The No. 18 Ohio Northern women's basketball team defeated Marietta 60-45 to win the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament championship Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

Pesticide and fertilizer recertification training

HARDIN COUNTY– Some farmers have received a notice that their current  pesticide and/or fertilizer applicator licenses will expire at the end of March 2023 and that they  must complete their continuing education hours to renew before this date.

March 6 blood drive at Visiting Nurses

Visiting Nurses & Hospice, 1200 S. Main St. will host an American Red Cross blood drive on March 6. At this time, Power Red appointments may be scheduled from 11:30 a.m. - 05:30 p.m.

Bulldog McClain wins sectional wrestling crown

Wrestler advances to March 3-4 districts with 37-8 record

LIMA–Ada High School junior Clayton McClain won the 144 lbs. division title in the Div. III northwest sectional tournament Saturday, February 25, at Lima Central Catholic.

His championship effort led the Bulldog wrestling team to ninth place out of 13 teams.

Seeded second out of nine wrestlers at 144 lbs., McClain received a first round bye and then advanced to the finals with consecutive pins. He pinned Coldwater sophomore Jordan Houser of Coldwater in 3:40, then pinned third-seeded Crestview junior Levi Grace at 4:28.

In the 144 lbs. title round bout, he decisioned top seed Hutch Ridenour of Parkway by a 9-1 count.

McClain advances to districts with a sparkling season record of 37-8.

Seeded second, Ada freshman Silas Riblet finished second in the four-man 106 lbs. division. He had a double bye into the semifinals. In the semis, he pinned sophomore Brayden Thompson of Delphos Jefferson at 3:56.

In the championship bout, Riblet fell to junior Aizik Myers of Allen East by decision, 8-0. His record heading to districts is 27-12.

Apollo Board meeting includes approval of levy amounts

The 7:00 p.m. Regular Meeting of the Apollo Board of Education on February 27, 2023 will include action on amounts to be derived from levies. The agenda is attached.

Conservation Tillage & Technology Conference March 14-15 in Ada

After March 1, registration fees increase

The Conservation Tillage & Technology Conference (CTC) will be held in- person March 14-15 at  Ohio Northern University in Ada. This year’s conference will feature David Hula, four-time winner of the National Corn Growers Association Yield Contest and current record holder at 616 bushels per acre–all accomplished with no-till and strip-till. His presentation has been made possible by sponsors Brandt Professional Agriculture, Calmer  Corn Heads, Pioneer Seeds, and Meristem Crop Performance. 

University Club II Scholarship winners for 2023

Rebecca Bash (Mt. Vernon Nazarene/Ridgemont H.S.) and Chase Fleece (Bowling Green State University/Kenton H.S.) are 2023 scholarship recipients

Rebecca Bash has been awarded the top scholarship for 2023 from the University Club II of  Hardin County. Rebecca is a 2020 graduate of Ridgemont High School and is attending Mount Vernon Nazarene University.  She is the daughter of  Jon and Karen Bash of Mt. Victory and will graduate with a degree in Middle Childhood Education in May of 2024.

Have you witnessed an Ada area business, its owners, managers or employees making special contributions to the community? The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce has a prize for that. The chamber is currently seeking nominations for the Outstanding Business/Industry award to be presented at the March 15 annual meeting at The Inn at ONU.
