E. Isabelle Nelson worked for Lima Memorial Hospital

E. Isabelle Nelson passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at her residence in Alger.

She was born on September 9, 1923, in Liberty Township, Hardin County, Ohio to the late Jesse T. and Effie (Phillips) Hubbell.  On December 2, 1945, Isabelle married Willis “Bill” Nelson and he preceded her in death on March 10, 2007.

Sharon Preston taught at Kenton City Schools

Sharon Joyce Preston of McGuffey, Ohio, born on July 27, 1935, to the late Eric and Martha (Basore) Allen, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 27, 2022, surrounded by her family.

On September 6, 1952, Sharon married Irvin L. Preston and he preceded her in death on October 3, 1994.

Ash Wednesday service at St. Mark Lutheran

St. Mark Lutheran will have in person Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. on
Wednesday, March 2. 

St. Mark is located at 125 S. Johnson St. (at the corner of E. Lincoln) in Ada.

ONU Men finish 3rd at OAC Indoor Track and Field Championships

Sophomore Keegan Digby (Bowling Green/Otsego) won the shot put championship, and the 4x400 relay team brought home a title to lead the Ohio Northern men's indoor track and field team to a third-place finish on Saturday, February 26, at the 2022 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships meet at Mount Union's Peterson Field House.

The Polar Bears (32-3) scored 107 points, placing third of 10 teams.

Ada Council meets March 1

March and April meeting calendar

The Village of Ada council will hold a regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1 at the Ada Municipal Building, 115 West Buckeye Ave. Individuals can attend virually at https://teams.live.com/meet/9341346267873 .

The agenda includes standard items for financial approval and department reports and just one resolution to designate individuals who can conduct banking on behalf of the village. A full packet is attached including the minutes of February 15.

Louise Taylor was born in Uniopolis

Mary Louise Taylor, age 78, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

She was born on December 28, 1943, in Uniopolis, Ohio to the late Nevil and Bernadine Ruby (Moore) Anderson.  On February 25, 1961, Louise married Harold Taylor and he survives in Ada.

Also surviving are her four children: Ramona (Anthony) Sumney, Jay Taylor, Teara Taylor and Sibble Taylor; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and a sister, Nancy Wilson.

Louise was preceded in death by her son, Kyle Raymond Taylor; and a brother, Kenneth Anderson.

Junior soccer skills camp offered April 3 at ONU

ONU Women's Soccer will be offering a Junior Polar Bear skills camp from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on April 3. The event provides a fun and challenging afternoon filled with skill development, competition and games.

The Junior Polar Bear Soccer Camp is for boys and girls, grades 5-8.

The event will take place at Kerscher Stadium on the campus of Ohio Northern University. The cost is $50/camper.

Kyleigh Nau participates in YMCA 8 & Under swim championships

Kyleigh Nau, age 7, of Ada participated in the 2022 Northwest Ohio YMCA swim league championships on February 26, an 8 & Under championship session.

Kyleigh swam in 5 individual events and had 5 personal best times. She place 20th out of 84 girls in the 25 free. Kyleigh swims for the Lima YMCA Barracudas.

Weekend Doctor: Mental health impacts of COVID

The mental health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have been felt by nearly everyone in our community. During the past two years, the Family Resource Center of Northwest Ohio has seen a 21 percent increase in adult mental health evaluations and a seven percent increase in pediatric mental health evaluations.

Bulldog McClain 3rd at wrestling sectionals; Vieira 5th

Four Ada High School wrestlers competed in the Div. III sectional tournament at Lima Central Catholic on February 26.

Bulldog sophomore Clayton McClain was seeded second and took third place in the 126 lbs. bracket. He posted a 3-1 record to advance to the next round of competition. 

The top four in each weight class qualify for the district meet.

McClain won his first match by pin at 2:47, then lost a second round decision by a 14-6 count. He rebounded to win a 13-3 decision in the consolation semifinals. 

In the third-place match, he edged Coldwater's Tanner Stammen 2-1. McClain is now 26-9 this season.
