Local otter sightings

Social media made the Icon aware of river otters being sighted by local photographers. A call from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources confirmed that in recent years the otter population has spread into northwest Ohio.

ODNR Wildlife research technician Sara Zaleski noted that otters seek clean, high quality water and that their presence is a good reflection on area water conditions.

In the early 20th century, otters were trapped out of existence (extirpated) in Ohio. In 1986, they were reintroduced by a program that brought otters to the eastern parts of the state. Since then, those populations and Michigan and Indiana populations have spread into our area.

Targeting

By Karen Kier, Pharmacist on behalf of the ONU HealthWise team

Targeting is defined by the dictionary as a means of selecting an object of attention or attack. Targeting is a marketing tool that identifies a target audience and directly advertises products to them through various channels. For example, a company could target reruns of The Golden Girls or The Mary Tyler Moore Show for products such as Medicare or AARP designed for an older audience. Those versed in online video games may recognize targeting as a strategy where one player continuously attacks the same person during the contest. Some may be familiar with the term targeting as it relates to football.

ONU robotics challenge

The video at https://www.onu.edu/news/holding-line shows how robots performed.

Students battled with wheeled robots that they programmed to follow a course made up of a twisting and turning black line. Two robots from competing teams started on opposite sides of the course and the winner was the first robot to make it back to its starting position, or catch up and bump the other robot from behind.
