Bob Piehl worked for General Dynamics

 Robert A. “Bob” Piehl, age 64, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021, at 10:45 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born on November 7, 1957, in Westminster, Ohio to Arlie “Pete” and Margaret Francis (Peirson) Piehl.  His father survives in Harrod and his mother preceded him in death.  On March 27, 1981, Bob married Dorothy L. Coon and she survives in Harrod.

McGuffey Drive-Thru Santa on December 3

The McGuffey Memories Historical Society will host a Drive-Thru Santa celebration from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 3.

The event will be held at McGuffey Memorial Park, 199 Courtright St.

ICAPP investigates pandemic impact on students

ONU education students under the direction of Dr. Sarah McCluskey recently examined how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected education in the United States. This is the latest addition to ONU’s Institute for Civics and Public Policy’s (ICAPP) “Critical Questions” series. The student authors find the pandemic has resulted in learning loss for students, increased workloads for educators and has made forging deeper relationships with families more difficult.

Lima Area Youth Orchestra presents Christmas concert

The Lima Area Youth Orchestra will present their Christmas concert at 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 5 in the Lima Senior High School Auditorium.1 Spartan Way.

Members of the orchestra come from ten area high schools and home-schools. Directors of the group are Dr. Sarah Waters and Mr. Joseph MacBenn.

Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students and seniors. Tickets will be available at the door.

2nd chance to order Bill Faine tees; deadline Dec. 10

Ada senior Shaina Phillips and Ada art teacher Mr. Wells collaborated on the T-shirt design to honor Bill Faine’s memory. The family will receive shirts, as well as any proceeds from sales.

Ada grapplers boast larger roster

The Ada varsity wrestling program has its biggest team in recent years as co-athletic director Eric Perkins takes the reins of the program after a two-year hiatus.

Just two of the 13 matmen on the roster are returning lettermen, but newcomers including seven freshmen show promise. "We are young but the roster is bigger," said Perkins. "It is exciting to have a roster with so many freshmen."

One senior, two juniors, three sophomores and seven freshmen comprise the roster. In one key loss, district qualifier Antonio Pettit transferred to Kenton.

United Way promotes Giving Tuesday

Sam Norris, director of the Mary Lou Johnson Hardin County Public Library, has promised to dress up as Buddy the Elf and read a Christmas story live on Facebook if the United Way of Hardin County meets its one day goal of raising $1,000 on November 30, a.k.a. Giving Tuesday.

Reminder: 2-hour early school release on Nov. 30

Ada Exempted Village Schools issued this reminder: November 30 is a 2-hour early release for students.

All students will be dismissed at 1:00 p.m. There is no after school tutoring program.

Loren E. Riblet owned and operated Riblet Packaging Company

Loren E. Riblet, age 74, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021 at 4:35 a.m. at his residence, surrounded by his family.

He was born on February 12, 1947, in Wayne County, Ohio to the late Glenn and Esther (Calame) Riblet.  On June 8, 1968, Loren married Bethany J. Miller and she survives in Ada.

Loren owned and operator Riblet Packaging Company.  He attended the Assembly of God Church in Carey.

Vicki Cheney worked at Ada High School

Vicki I. Cheney, age 70, passed from this natural earth on the morning of November 28, 2021.

Vicki was born March 10, 1951, in Lima, OH to Russell D. and JoAnn Kent. She graduated from Ada High School and returned to her alma mater as a Cook for many years and fed many of her “bonus kids.” Vicki married Larry G. Cheney on January 22, 1972. They would have celebrated 50 years of marriage January 22, 2022.

Vicki is survived by her husband, Larry, two children, Larry (Jane) Cheney and Jessica Rodgers, five grandchildren, Taylor (Coby) Goble, Kenna (Eric King) Cheney, Austin Cheney, Kalil Rodgers and Kyson Rodgers and one great grandchild, Kinsleigh Goble.
