Blanchard Pleasant Buckeyes met on Aug. 5

The Blanchard Pleasant Buckeyes met on Aug. 5 in the Hardin Northern Ag Building.  A summary of their meeting follows:

Recreation for the night was a water relay ran by Heidi Trachsel. The meeting was led by president Megan Miller.  Pledge of Allegiance was led by Paul Minter and the 4-H Pledge by Cameron Wykes.

There were 48 total present, 38 members, 7 advisors, and 3 guests. 

Noteworthy Community Choir hits the road this summer!

From contemporary Broadway tunes to standard jazz and show tunes, Noteworthy Community Choir brings music to three communities this summer.

The Ada-based choir performed at the ONU/Lima Symphony pops concert in July, at Kenton's Immaculate Conception summer festival and at Maple Crest, Bluffton, in August.

Contact NCC to become a part of an exciting and growing choral organization.  Audition for the upcoming season, or consider the non-auditioned sections for both adults and children! 

Bulldog boys soccer club looks to re-tool on the run

The Ada boys soccer team has a tough act to follow in 2019, but the Bulldogs return several talented players to try and meet the challenge.

The Bulldogs lost seven starters from their sectional champion team to graduation, led by high-scoring Northwest Conference Player of the Year Chris Reyes.

Fellow all-league first teamer Noah Garmon and second team pick Jacob Okuly, as well as Jon Allen, also graduated and will be missed.

Junior C. Conley was a U.S. Navy veteran

Junior C. Conley,  72, died on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019, at 2:30 a.m. at Vancrest of Ada.

He was born on Aug. 29, 1946, in Hardin County, Ohio, to L.T. and Martha (Elwood) Conley who preceded him in death. 

Junior was a loader at Provico Grain Elevator. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1965-1967. 

Junior is survived by two sons: Chuck (Wathusiri) Conley of Shawnee and David (Traci) Bitler of Westminster; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two brothers: Anthony “Tony” Conley of Lima and Loyd (Debra) Conley of McGuffey; and a sister: Ruth (Paul) Lawrence of Ada. 

Ada golfers 4th in NWC quad

Despite a solid team score, the Ada golf team finished fourth in a tough four-team Northwest Conference meet Tuesday at the Bluffton Golf Course.

Bluffton and Allen East tied with 179 strokes each, followed by Paulding (190) and Ada (209). The Pirates won the tiebreaker with AE after both teams' fifth man shot 51 since Pirate Wes Brauen shot a 64 in the sixth spot.

Senior Alex Morgan and junior Brevin Sizemore tied for Bulldog team honors as each carded a 47. Senior Ethan Hull tallied a 55, while junior Jacob Morgan shot 60 to round out the Bulldog scorers.

Community "engagement" Aug. 24

ONU students place active learning and community involvement into action

Ohio Northern University will put active learning and community involvement into practice with the annual Ada Community Engagement (ACE) event from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 24.

The program is designed to engage incoming students with their college home and provide opportunities for ONU’s first-year students to contribute to the village and surrounding communities.

University members will travel to several individual residences to help with projects such as weeding, mulching and painting.

Ada elementary class lists now posted on Icon

The most important questions for Ada elementary students leading up to the first day of school are:

• Who are your class members?

Those questions are answered today as the Kindgergarten to sixth grade class lists are now posted.

Ann Piper 1930 - 2019

Annis L. “Ann” Piper, 88, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, at 5:30 a.m. at Lima Manor.

She was born on Aug.17, 1930, in Hindman, Kentucky, to the late Willis and Della (Cox) Conley.  Ann married Waldo Oglesbee and he preceded her in death on April 1, 1960. She later married Paul Piper and he preceded her in death on April 3, 2004.

Ann was a homemaker.  She was a member of the Alger Assembly of God Church. 

Ada Historical Society meets Monday

The Ada Historical Society will hold its regular monthly August meeting on Monday, August 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the Ada Public Library, 320 N. Main Street, Ada.

Becca Joseph named ONU assistant coach with women's Lacrosse

Women's Lacrosse head coach Beth Hemminger has added to her coaching staff. Becca Joseph will join the Polar Bears as an assistant coach this upcoming season. Joseph comes to Ada from Earlham College where she was an assistant coach with the Quakers' women's lacrosse squad. 

Joseph played her collegiate lacrosse at Wittenberg University where she enjoyed a decorated career. She was a first team All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection as a sophomore and a junior. She was also honored as an All-Great Lakes Region player in 2016 after scoring 51 goals and logging 36 assists.
