ONU volunteers stop at Vancrest

Two weekends ago Vancrest was visited by several Ohio Northern University volunteers during the annual “ONU Love Day.”

They wash windows, spread mulch and this year brought cards for each resident. 

Jennifer Line, Vancrest activities director said, “The joy and pride they bring to our residents, while sprucing up the front and back porches of their home, is amazing. 

Ada council dismisses its fiscal officer

Action followed a one-hour executive session

Crystal Huffer, Ada village fiscal officer, was dismissed from her employment with the Village of Ada during action in a special council meeting held April 12.

The action resulted following a one-hour executive session by Ada council members prior to the open session of the meeting.

Council president Don Fleming moved and Jeff Oestreich seconded a motion for Huffer’s dismissal.

According to minutes from the meeting, the dismissal was “due to misfeasance, malfeasance and nonfeasance, each of which is a  group III offense as per the Village’s Policy and Procedure Manual.”

Ada's Mackenzie Wills OAC women's tennis player of the week

Last week she posted a perfect 10-0 overall record

Ada HS grad and ONU junior women's tennis player Mackenzie Wills has been awarded Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week kudos for the first time in her Ohio Northern career, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Last week, Wills posted a perfect 10-0 overall record, leading the Polar Bears to an undefeated 5-0 mark against Baldwin Wallace, Franciscan, Muskingum, Marietta, and Earlham (Ind.). The junior went 5-0 in singles play in the No. 2-5 roles and 5-0 in doubles action in the No. 1-3 slots.

Women team posts three wins

Men’s tennis
The Ohio Northern men's tennis program posted a 9-0 sweep over Ohio Athletic Conference foe Marietta during the OAC Tennis Fest Saturday at the Lindner Tennis Center in Mason, stretching its current win streak to four matches and maintaining its undefeated league record in the 2018-19 campaign.

With the victory, the Polar Bears improve to 9-6 overall and 3-0 in the OAC. The Pioneers fall to 6-10 overall and 1-4 in conference play with the loss.

ONU men finished 9th of 20 team field

Freshman Andrew Buderer (Oak Harbor) posted a runner-up finish in the pole vault Saturday afternoon, leading the Ohio Northern men's track and field team to a ninth-place finish in a 20-team field on the George Gauthier Track in Delaware at the 2019 All-Ohio Championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.

The Polar Bears (44-10 overall) ended ninth overall after tallying 38.5 team points on Saturday. Otterbein won the team title with 140.50 points; John Carroll finished second with 116 points; and Case Western Reserve took third with 92.5 points.
