Don E. Preston, 1936 - 2018

Don Eldon Preston, died Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 5:07 a.m. at his residence in Ada.

          He was born on September 16, 1936 in Hardin County to William and Merle (Crowe) Preston and they preceded him in death.  On October 5, 1957 Don married Shirley Gardner who survives on their family farm in Ada. 

          Don graduated from McGuffey High School where he later served on the school board.  Don worked for 35 years at the Ford Engine Plant in Lima and farmed during this time to support his family which he loved dearly and was incredibly proud of them.

Ken Collins’ camera caught much of the action at the 10th annual Ada War Memorial Pull hosted by the Hardin County Tractor Pullers on Friday evening with Hillbilly Sound on the mic. A good-sized crowd, lots of dirt turned, here it is...minus the roar of the engines.

Ada VFW events for June

June events open to the public at Ada VFW Post include:

June 15, 5-7 p.m., baked steak dinner, $8 adults, $4 children.

June 16, 8 p.m., karaoke. 

June 29, 5-7 p.m., fish dinner, $8 adults, $4 children.

Tattoo Studio holds grand opening

Rebel Art Tattoo Studio, 229 N. Main, held a grand opening on Friday with folks checking out various displays and sampling the muchies. The business is open from noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The phone number is 419-558-1272. Laura Atkin is owner. Justin Niles is the artist. The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting there at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 15.

Dont' forget Saturday's health fair carnival

Lots of games, door prizes and health awareness activities

The Ohio Northern University HealthWise Pharmacy will host a community health carnival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 9.

The pharmacy is located in the Robertson-Evans Pharmacy Building at ONU, located at 511 W. Lincoln Ave. in Ada.

The event will allow individuals to learn about their health, play games and win prizes. Refreshments and lunch will be provided.

Information will be offered on health topics such as high blood pressure, diabetes, sun safety, drug abuse/addiction, immunizations and plans to quit smoking. Further, medication reviews will be offered.

Future ONU HealthWise outreach events involving the pharmacy and mobile clinic include:

Brandt Miller, Jodi Dearth promoted at Liberty National

Both are active in community and county organizations

Brandt Miller and Jodi Dearth received promotions this month from Liberty National Bank, according to Ronald L. Zimmerly, Jr., president and CEO.

Brandt Miller
Miller was named vice president and commercial lender. He has been a part of the Liberty team since 2012. He has worked in the banking industry since 2002, as a credit analyst and a commercial/agricultural loan officer. He graduated from Allen East High School and Ohio Northern University with his BSBA in accounting.

“Hello Summer…Hello Sunshine!”

Well, there were moments when we thought it may never arrive, but summer is here and in full swing! (YES!!! Finally ;) Hopefully, you have had a chance to get out and enjoy a little of the sunshine and beautiful temps so far…..

Summer is full of so many fun opportunities….vacations, swimming, camping, boating, picnics, bike rides, gardening, long walks/runs. The list could go on and on. However, one common element surfaces across all these fun activities….the sun.

It's the Hardin County Pullers first event of the summer

The Hardin County Pullers will be at Ada War Memorial Park on Friday, June 8. The competition will begin at 7 p.m. and will last until about 11 p.m. Gates open at 3 p.m. Registration is at 5 p.m.
