Vince Reichert started the Main Street store in 1952. Fred began working there after graduating from Ohio Northern in 1977. He bought the store from his dad in 1992.

School board holds meeting and planning session Feb. 18

The Ada school board will hold a meeting and planning session next week.

The meeting is at 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 18, in the board meeting room.

Ada HS instrumental solo and ensemble contest results

Seven Ada High School musicians received either Superiors or Excellent ratings at last Saturday's solo and ensemble contest held at Lima Senior. 

Instrumental students were:

Fifth annual Polar Plunge set for Feb. 13

The Alpha Eta chapter of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity at Ohio Northern University will hold its fifth annual Polar Plunge philanthropy event in the Polar Bear Pond outside the ONU Sports Center on Feb. 13 at 1 p.m.

More than 150 students and members of the community will brave the elements to take the plunge into the frigid waters of Polar Bear Pond.  There will be food and drinks at the event, including tasty Kewpee burgers and delicious hot chocolate.  All proceeds from the event will benefit the America Red Cross.

45 years of drama

There's lots of drama in this photo, simply because is the the Ada High School Drama Club from the 1970-71 school year.

Laurie Laird, owner of New Leaf Garden Center, has heart-shaped cyclamen for sale for Valentine's.

Also, potted miniature roses, violets, and candy are available at the store which is located at 0395 SR 235 north of town.

The garden center is open year-round. It will be open regular hours this week and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., closed Sunday.

Gastwas named OAC women's indoor track athlete of the week

Ohio Northern Junior Allison Gastwas named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the week of February 8-14.
Gast set a new school record in the 200-meter dash this past weekend at the Joe Banks Invitational with a time of :26.81, claiming a second place finish.

The junior broke the previous record of :26.90 set by Amy Wood on February 17, 1996.

She also won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of :09.21 and finished third in the 60-meter dash with a time of :07:98.

Bulldogs have two champs at Northwest Conference wrestling event

Ada High School wrestlers finished sixth in the Northwest Conference wrestling championship held this past weekend at Paulding. The Bulldogs had two individual champions. Both are underclassmen. One Ada champ was one of only three repeat champs from last year. 

Allen East senior Brandon Soules (152) was named Wrestler of The Year in the NWC in a vote by the coaches. Mike Wilson of Jefferson was voted by his peers as NWC Coach of The Year.
