Ever hear of yttrium or ruthenium? Just ask Mr. Lusk

Yttrium and ruthenium are two words this writer has never used...until now. Both words are elements in the periodic table.

Memorizing the table used to be a boring chore for science students, but longtime science Ada teacher Dave Lusk found a way to make learning about the elements both educational and interesting.

In this picture, he discusses the element yttrium with Olivia Alexander and the element ruthenium with Seth Conley, both sophomores.

Bayliff and Sons Funeral Home handling arrangements for Brianna Green

Brianna Green, 22, formerly of Lima, died the morning of Dec. 30,2015, at her residence.

Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville are handling the arrangements.

Ruth Brown worked at the Ada Herald for 26 years

Ruth M. Brown, 95, died on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at 10:30 P.M. at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

She was born on June 18, 1920 in Ada, Ohio, to Ernest P. and Ethel G. (Montgomery) Klingler who preceded her in death. On Nov. 19, 1937 she married Russel A. “Bud” Brown and he died on May 9, 1999.

Ruth worked at The Ada Herald for 26 years and was also employed by Ada Schools as a High School Study Hall monitor for a few years, along with being a farmer’s wife. She was a life-time member of St. Paul’s UCC of rural Ada and attended very faithfully until December 2015.

ONU Walking for Wellness participants walk around the world twice

FROM ONU'S WEBSITE: The Ohio Northern University Walking for Wellness program saw a record number of participants complete its 10-week walking program and enjoy positive results throughout the challenge. The program was overseen by the University’s health and wellness clinical team: ONU HealthWise.

A record 179 employees and students enrolled in the walking program. Throughout the two-and-a-half-month challenge, these participants walked a total of 91,212,370 steps (or approximately 45,606 miles).

Ada Soccer Association registration starts on Jan. 11

It's January, but it's also soccer season in Ada.

Ada Soccer Association spring sign-ups take place in January. According to Jennifer Miller, sign-ups are in Fellowship Hall of the Ada Presbterian Church, 201 S. Main St.

She said, "If your child is a new player bring a certified copy of a birth certificate. These area available at county health departments.

Five dates are set for sign-ups. At that time all forms, birth certificates and payment is required.

ReStore back in business, so stop in and stand on the new floor

ReStore has a new floor and is once again open for business, meals, and events.

The community center closed in mid-December, after sponsoring many Christmas events, and reopened Tuesday with the nonskid, multicolored floor.

Here, Dana Walters, director, and Robert Kanzig, assistant director, admire the upgrade.

The original floor was installed many years ago when the Main Street location was known as Messick's Dime Store, later to be Peper Drugs for many years.

You are all seniors, what are your plans after high school?
Tristan: Probably will attend ONU or University of Toledo. I’m interested in mechanical engineering.
Cole: ONU, where I want to play soccer and major in physical therapy.
Sidney: I want to attend Defiance and play basketball.
Luis: I’m undecided, but want to go into business.
Jorge: I’m going to take a break from school and maybe attend later.

Jeff Oestreich will serve as Ada council president in 2016

Jeff Oestreich will serve at Ada council president in 2016. Oestreich was chosen for the position by council members at Tuesday's 2016 council reorganization meeting.

Other council committee appoints were also announced. Those committees are listed in an attachment at the bottom of this story.
