Ada chamber yearly membership dinner Feb. 17

Ada Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its yearly membership dinner at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 17, according to Deb Curlis. The location will be announced soon.

 

 

University Chapter of PRSSA takes second in national competition

The Ohio Northern University chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) garnered second place in the KIND “No Compromises” Campaign. This national competition challenged teams to bring to life KIND’s “AND philosophy” by life-hacking their college campuses.

The ultimate objective for participating team was to build awareness among students that KIND snacks are the perfect snack for both health and taste.

ONU, which finished behind the University of Alabama, will receive $500 for the team and a case of KIND snacks; $5,000 will be donated to a charity of the team’s choosing. Finishing third was Ohio University.

Once upon a time in Ada - Willis Winkler was first president of Ada Senior Citizens

June 1971 the Ada Senior Citizens organized. The new Senior Citizens Center organization has accepted the offer of Post 185, American Legion, for free use of its first-floor room in the mornings and afternoons was announced by Willis Winkler, president.

Opening of the Senior Citizens was held Aug. 16, 1971, at 109 North Main Street.

Smart Christmas gift idea this year from Reichert's - swim trunks and umbrella

You won't need a sleigh for there will be no snow on Christmas Day.

Perhaps, you'll want to shop Reichert's in downtown Ada for swim trunks and an umbrella instead.

The Dec. 25 temp is predicted to be in the mid 50s with a good chance of rain. You can start dreaming now for a white Christmas in 2016.

"Scenes of Ada, Ohio" photo book by Karen Ward now available at Art Gallery on Main

Local photographer Karen Ward has produced a book of 50 photographs of the village titled "Scenes of Ada, Ohio."

It is for sale at the Art Gallery on Main. Karen has taken pictures of town ever since she arrived here 25 years ago.

The 10" by 10" book includes familiar places (ONU, Wilson's, the parks, churches, grain elevator) and the unfamiliar, only what a creative artist might see (weathered siding, weeds blooming along a roadside, snow scenes).

ONU's Devon Price second team All-American D3

 Ohio Northern senior Devon Price was named a member of the 2015 D3football.com All-America Team at the wide receiver position.

Price earned Second Team honors and earned his first All-America honor.

The senior is currently ONU's all-time career leader with 244 receptions and 3,201 yards. He also is top all-time at ONU with 76 kickoff returns for 1,868 yards and is second with 5,539 all-purpose yards.

He led the Ohio Athletic Conference this season with 89 receptions for 1,217 yards to go with six touchdowns.

Price helped guide the Polar Bears to a 9-3 record and an NCAA Tournament birth.

Toss the traditional library silence mode out the window for this party

A teen Christmas party Thursday at the Ada Public Library was anything but calm and quiet, contrary to the traditional library mode of near silence.

When a bunch of teens gather to have fun, it's a noisy occasion, but no matter they had their own room for games, cookie decorating, and gift exchange.

Explaining a game (candy was the reward) are Natalie Walton, youth services librarian, and her husband, Josh.

Ohio Northern University receives Walgreens Diversity Grant

The Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy has received a grant from Walgreens for $10,000 to promote diversity among student pharmacists and to assist minority students with financial aid. Ryan Wagner and Randy Jennings presented the check from Walgreens while on a trip to the Ada campus. Jennings is a 1998 graduate of the Raabe College of Pharmacy.

Lloyd "Walt" Early was a 1941 Ada High School graduate

Lloyd "Walt" Early, 93, of Jenera, died on Thursday at the Good Samaritan Home in Arlington. Walt was born on Aug., 7, 1922 in Allen County to the late Schuyler C. and Josephine L. (Bundy) Early. He was married to Marilyn W. Betz, Marjory E. Robbins and Betty A. VanDeventer and they all have preceded him in death.

On Nov. 4, 1995 he married Carolyn E. Woodward and she survives.  Walt was a graduate of Ada High School in 1941. Walt was a U.S. Army veteran as a PFC in the 99th Infantry, Air Cadet in the 78th Infantry Division during WWII, seeing combat in several battles including the Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland, Ramagen, Bridge, Ruhr Pocket and Colonge Plains.
