New Leaf Christmas open house Saturday, Nov. 14

New Leaf Landscape and Garden Center, 0395 State Route 235 (north of Ada), will hold its Christmas open house from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14.

The open house includes many special sale items plus an opportunity to sign up to win one of four $25 gift certificates.

For Christmas, in addition to its regularly-stocked items, New Leaf offers:

Ada Senior Citizens Thanksgiving dinner Nov. 11

Ada Senior Citizens will hold a Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 11,  at The Old Barn Out Back.

If you will be attending, RSVP to Chloe at 419-634-9030 or Diane Heise at 419-649-4006 by Monday, Nov. 9.

The group will carpool from Ada Visiting Nurses parking lot at 11:30 a.m. The group will visit the Allen County Museum on the way back to Ada.

Corbin Jonathan Vermillion funeral service on Thursday

Corbin Jonathan Vermillion, 2 months, died on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015 at 7:01 a.m. at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay.

Corbin was born on Aug. 17, 2015,in Lima, Ohio, to Logan J. Vermillion and Amanda N. Kindle who survive in Forest.

Get ready for the 38th annual Ada Music Feast Saturday

It's a feast of music this weekend at Ada High School.

The 38th annual Ada Music Feast Show Choir Invitational Competition is Saturday, Nov. 7,  at Ada High School. 

This year’s program features talented young men and women from 14 visiting show choirs from Ohio, West Virginia and Indiana.  Ada Varsity Singers, under the direction of Abigail Glenn, vocal music director and Jonathan Lischak, director of instrumental and co-director, will also provide an exhibition performance as the host school for this day-long event.

This year's award goes to...Sandra Neely; her impact on the community is like a ripple in the water

• She’s so passionate about youth learning to swim and has spent countless hours and years championing the swim lesson program in Ada.
• She’s instrumental in keeping the program going by seeking local sponsors to assist in providing a low-cost program for those who sign up.
• She has helped countless youth to overcome fears of the water.
• She’s been involved in providing swimming lessons for over 48 years.

“She” is Sandra Neely – the 2015 Ada Town and Gown Distinguished Citizen of the Year. The announcement took place during the Nov. 2 banquet in McIntosh Center at ONU.

Hardin County Red Cross helping Ada family following house fire

The American Red Cross of Hardin County is helping an Ada family of three following a Monday night fire at their residence. 

Red Cross Disaster Responders Arin Tracy and Bob Cunningham provided the family aid for immediate needs including temporary shelter, food and clothing.       

The Red Cross will continue to aid the residents as needed and assist in long term recovery planning with resources, information, and referrals to partner agencies.
