It’s August but the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce Blaze of Lights Committee is already at work.

This year’s Blaze of Lights is Saturday, Nov. 28.

Blaze theme
According to Lauren Beasley, Christmas lighting contest director, “This year’s Blaze theme is ‘A Christmas from the Past.’ Downtown businesses are encouraged to start thinking about ideas to decorate their store windows based on that theme.”

Windows winners will be selected by downtown businesses. This year’s residential lighting contest details will be announced soon. Cash prizes will be awarded to winners.

The answer to this question could be debated all summer.

What's your favorite flower in the Ada depot park? It depends on several variables. For example, which month do you check the blooms? What's your favorite color? What's your favorite fragrance? 

Do you like climbers? Do you like creepers? The list goes on.

We can't solve this question, but we can provide our favorite nine blooms in August. These were photographed earlier this week. We've simply focused on one individual flower of our favorites.

The Ada schools welcome nine new staff members for the 2015-16 school year, according to the Ada Bulldogs Facebook page.

New staff are:

A Hardin County Job & Career Expo takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 25, at the Hardin County Sheriff's Office Community Room.

In partnership with the Ada Chamber of Commerce, Hardin County Job & Family Services and Ohio Means Jobs Hardin County office, the event assists local and regional businesses search for, and hire new employees, help our unemployed get back to work, and the underemployed find a better job that matches their skill sets. 

Various businesses are currently looking to hire entry level to senior level positions, with industry types that include: manufacturing, service, government, medical, financial and others to be announced.

The Ada Kiwanis Club met on Tuesday August 11th in the Dean’s Heritage Room, McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University, and Ada.

In business:
-Members heard an updated financial report from Treasurer Bryan Marshall.

-Secretary Bill Fuller reported that Kiwanis international had informed the club of an increase in dues and fees beginning with the 2015-2016 administrative year.

-A discussion was held concerning funding for the Hardin County Fair 4-H livestock auction. 

-The club agreed to replace a tree in War Memorial Park dedicated in memory of Everett Ludwig. 

The Arlington Boy Scout Troop 318 will hold at hog roast from 4 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, in the Arlington Park.

Tickets are $8. Meals are for both take out or eat at the park.

Meals include a dessert and drink in addition to the main course.

On Aug. 17 the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous call stating a marijuana plant was visible from the roadway at 16722 TR 119, southwest of the City of Kenton.

Sheriff’s Deputies along with the Hardin County Crime Task Force responded and confirmed the plant to be marijuana.

The residents were contacted and a search of the property revealed several other marijuana plants on the property. A grow room was also located inside of the residence where several more marijuana plants were also seized.

In all 13.05 pounds of marijuana as well as several items used in the cultivation process were confiscated from the property.

Deirdre “Dee Dee” Myers, Ohio Northern University pharmacy and laboratory instructor, was presented the 2014-15 Albert E. Rosica Jr. Memorial award by the American College of Apothecaries (ACA) at the College’s 2015 Annual Education Conference in Denver on Aug. 14.

This award, established in memory of Albert E. Rosica Jr., a past president of the ACA, is presented in recognition of outstanding contributions to pharmacy education.

After Myers graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1983, she began practicing pharmacy at a community pharmacy that she and her husband, Randy, still own. Myers also is the treasurer of Harry’s Pharmacy Inc.

Ohio Northern University is holding children's auditions for the “Holiday Spectacular” on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 1p.m. at the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Ohio Northern University.

Looking for singers and dancers ranging in age from 5-12. Children may be asked to sing and should be ready to participate in a dance call (jazz and/or tap shoes).
