About 25 children and their parents had fun at Theodor Seuss Geisel's birthday party (also known as Dr. Seuss) at the Ada Public Library on March 12. In addition to several activities a large collection of the good doctor's books were on display.

The Ohio Northern University Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents “Mutts Gone Nutts” on Saturday, March 14, at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The evening performance is sold out, however, tickets still remain for the matinee showing at 4 p.m.

Hardin County agriculture will celebrate agriculture’s role as part of National Ag Week March 15-21 and Ag Day on Wednesday, March 18. 

The National Ag Day program encourages people to:
• Understand how food and fiber products are produced. 
• Appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant and affordable products. 
• Value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy. 
• Acknowledge and consider career opportunities in the agriculture, food and fiber industry.

Gary L. McCurdy, 71, died on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 9:58 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health Systems, Lima.

He was born on June 1, 1943, in Lima, to Paul L. and Lois L. (Boyer) McCurdy and they preceded him in death. On May 6, 1977, he married Judith M. Schmenk and she survives in Ada.

He was a financial advisor. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Ada. He was a Royal Arch Mason.

Also surviving are two sons: Michael (Frances) and Joseph (Emily); three daughters: Caroline (Dan), Amelia “Molly” (Clint) and Kathryn (Eric); seven grandchildren: Henry, Paulina, Charlie, Sam, Jude, Rett and Louis.

Rose Marie Grzybowski, 77, died March 9, 2015, at her residence. She was born Jan. 20, 1938, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Bernard and Marie (Jozwiak) Twardowski.

She had been a waitress and licensed beautician. She was a graduate of Gage High School, Chicago, Ill.

Survivors include two sons Robert A. (Dava) Grzybowski, Jr,. of Lima, Ron (Amy) Grzybowski of Ada; four grandchildren; and a brother Tom (Arlene) Twardowski of Illinois.

She was preceded in death by two brothers John and Bernard Twardowski.

Private burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later date in Hazleton Community Cemetery, Hazleton, Indiana. There will be no visitation.

Lovers of the Disney movie Frozen should stop by the Ada Library, Saturday, March 21st at 10:30a.m. for themed crafts, snacks, and a viewing of the sing-a-long version of the film. And yes, participation in the sing-a-long is STRONGLY encouraged; folks are also encouraged to dress as their favorite Frozen character. As always the program is FREE and open to all.

Ohio Northern University’s Habitat for Humanity Chapter sent 110 students on work trips for spring break March 1-7.

Instead of heading down south for a week on a beach with friends, these ONU students  built homes for families in need. The habitat work teams traveled to Sumter, S.C., Jackson, Miss., and Davidson, N.C., and partner with Habitat for Humanity affiliates to work on homes in the area.

Ada second and third graders invite Icon viewers to their class musical presentation of "GOAL."

Performances are Thursday, March 12, at 1:15 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Ada school auditorium. Doors open 30 minutes prior to each performance, according to Lori Wilson, elementary music teacher.

"GOAL" portrays a group of students who are excited to host a kid's international soccer game at their school. Songs and dances celebrate  "The Beautiful Game," and features the Rogers and Hammerstein favorite "You'll Never Walk Alone."    

Students have on display paragraphs written about their own personal goals in life, or their favorite soccer experiences.

Ohio Northern University awarded National Institute of Mental Health grant to study ‘Time-Dependent Effects of Stress and Learning: Physiological and Genetic Associations’

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) has awarded Ohio Northern University an Academic Research Enhancement Award to conduct research that could provide new insights into traumatic memory formation and ultimately lead to more-targeted treatment options for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
