On school board agenda: Ada eighth graders may tour Washington, D.C., in April

Ada eighth graders may be visiting the nation’s capital in April. The Ada school board will act on approval of the class trip during the Nov. 21 school board meeting.

If approved, the trip to Washington, D.C., will take place April 9-13. Class chaperones will be Mr. Styer, Mr. Lee, Mrs. Beachler and Mrs. Gossard.

Several additional items are on the board’s agenda including entering executive session to discuss employment and compensation of public employees.

I hopped onto Discover Ohio's site to find somewhere we hadn't been in the past for a quick weekend getaway, and I ended up at a link for an inn on the campus of Ohio Northern University.

Northern's baccalaureate nursing program accredited

Ohio Northern University’s baccalaureate degree program in nursing (BSN) has received a 10-year accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

To receive this distinction, the ONU program met four accreditation standards. The standards include three program quality areas: mission and governance, institutional commitment and resources, and curriculum and teaching learning practices. The fourth is a measure of program effectiveness in student performance and faculty accomplishments.

Ada Kiwanis members hear about United Methodist NOMADS Program

President Heather Cox called the weekly meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club to order at 12:00 noon on Tuesday November 12th at McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University, Ada. 

-The invocation was offered by Jon Umphress.  Doris and Harold Cotsamire along with Circle K members and Katie Lorson and Allie Puntel were welcomed as guests
The birthday of Katie Lorson (today) was celebrated is song.
The membership of anniversary (one year) of member David McDonald was also noted.
In business:-Members heard an updated financial report from Treasurer Bryan Marshall.

-Secretary Brian Myers reported that the October report filed on time.

Village Voice: Know local men and women who are actively serving?

Do you know local men and women who are actively serving in the United States military? In the spirit of the upcoming holidays, the Village is currently looking for names and mailing addresses of servicemen and women from Ada and the immediate area for a Christmas outreach project.

The project will consist of mailing Christmas cards handmade by local children, and the information provided will be used for this purpose.

ONU student recognized at PRSSA national convention

Ohio Northern University senior Lauren Stahl, a communication arts/public relations major from Belle Center, Ohio, was awarded third place for the Betsy Plank Scholarship at the Public Relation Student Society of America (PRSSA) National Conference in Philadelphia on Oct. 28.

“It was such a blessing to attend National Conference and accept my award on stage. The whole experience really opened up my eyes to how remarkable the public relations program is at Ohio Northern University. I couldn’t be more thankful for my professors and personal mentors who have helped me every step of the way,” Stahl said.

ONU sets record with 94 percent placement rate of 2013 graduates

The Polar Careers Office at Ohio Northern University has announced a record 94 percent placement rate for students who graduated in 2013 according to its six-month assessment report. The new mark is up 2 percent from last year for those students who reported placement.

Ninety-six percent of the class of 2013 participated in the placement report; this number is up 3 percent from last year and sets a new standard for ONU.

2014 Hardin County plat map is now available

Who owns Hardin County? Thousands of people have a piece of it, and they are listed in the new plat book published by the Hardin County 4-H with Mapping Solutions.
