Dorthey Jean Fry, 1940-2013

Dorthey Jean (Lamb) Fry, age 73, died on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 3:30 a.m. at her residence in Alger, Ohio.

She was born on June 6, 1940 at her family home in McGuffey to William T. and Ella Marie (Sheldon) Lamb and they preceded her in death. On June 6, 1959 she married Rev. Ronald L. Fry and he survives in Alger.

Dorthey was a member of the Victory Chapel of Praise, Harrod.

The family would like to thank the Alger USV Squad, Lima Memorial Hospital Nurses and especially the Universal Home Health Hospice of Kenton.

It's official: Zac Dysert "makes the cut" - he's on the 53-member Bronco roster

Head Coach John Fox said on Saturday that rookie quarterback Zac Dysert 'earned' his place on the Broncos' 53-man roster.

When the Broncos selected quarterback Zac Dysert in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft back in April, the rookie's eventual place on the team was anything but guaranteed.

Ribbon cutting at Love In the Name of Christ
The Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance will conduct a ribbon cutting ceremony at Love In TheName Of Christ (Love Inc.), located at 224 W. Columbus St., (the old City Building) in Kenton on August 31 at 9 a.m. A Grand Opening will also be held in conjunction with the ribbon cutting.

Joseph Phillip Stephens, 1970-2013

Joseph Phillip Stephens, II, age 42, died on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 11:24 a.m. at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine.

He was born on September 1, 1970 in Kenton, Ohio to Joseph P. and Linda M. (Harpster) Stephens who survive in Belle Center.

Joseph worked as a journeyman sprinkler fitter. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge #3615 of Indian Lake.

Also surviving is a fiancé, Jackie Haynes of Lakeview; two brothers: John (Patsy) Stephens of Belle Center and Jeff Stephens of Mt. Victory; a sister, Jaime Stevens of Belle Center; several nieces and nephews; paternal grandmother, Pat Stephens of Kenton; maternal grandparents: Bob and Ora Joyce of Ada.

Cheryl Howard was former owner of Rams Roost

Cheryl L. Howard, age 56, died Friday, August 30, 2013 at 1:28 a.m. at her residence in Alger.

She was born on January 6, 1957 in Lima, Ohio to Harvey and Louise (Plummer) Hunsicker and they preceded her in death. On June 18, 1978 she married Henry Howard and he survives in Alger.

Cheryl was the former owner of the Rams Roost in McGuffey for over 12 years. 

Steven Wayne Scott II was a USV graduate

Steven W. Scott, II, age 44, died Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in Alger, Ohio.

He was born on August 1, 1969 in Lima, Ohio to Steven and Ruth (Coburn) Scott who preceded him in death.

Steven previously worked for 13 years at Honda, Marysville. He was a 1987 graduate of Upper Scioto Valley High School.

Surviving are a brother, Matthew Scott of Celina and a sister, Jennifer Scott of Lima.
He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Patricia Scott

A graveside service will be conducted at a later date.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada.

James L. Vermillion, 1932-2013

James L. Vermillion, age 80, died on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 8:55 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.

He was born on November 22, 1932 in Waynesfield, Ohio to Cletus G. and Ethel J. (Gossard) Vermillion and they preceded him in death. On May 25, 1952 he married Marcia E. Connor and she survives in LaFayette.

It's not in the card catalog, but Zumba's coming to the library

Zumba may not be in the Ada Public LIbrary's card catalog, but you can find the popular exercise in a free series of classes at the library, according to Amanda Bennett, library director.

Zumba combines Latin and international music with a fun and effective workout system.

Lynne Scott, licenses Zumba instructor, will lead the classes, which go from basic steps to toning.

An orientation takes place at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 31, at the library, followed by six weeks of classes beginning in mid-September.

Kenneth Reid awarded IEEE-USA Professional Achievement Award

Kenneth Reid, Ohio Northern University’s director of engineering education and first-year engineering, and associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, has been awarded the 2013 IEEE-USA Professional Achievement Award for “pioneering undergraduate engineering education curriculum” for the development of ONU’s Bachelor of Science for engineering education program.
