It's Bingo on Thursdays in October

Ada Bingo plays on Thursdays at the Alumni N-men’s Building in downtown Ada. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; Bingo begins at 6:55 p.m. Ada Bingo uses new, radio-controlled electronic machines, as well as, traditional paper packages. Proceeds from Ada Bingo benefits the Ada Lion's Club and Ada Music Boosters.

Ross scores twice in men's soccer win

The No. 8 Ohio Northern men's soccer team won in dominating fashion 5-0 against the Thomas More Saints on Saturday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.

The Polar Bears improve to 8-2-0 on the season while the Saints suffer their first loss and fall to 4-1-3.

Senior Nate Bascom started the scoring for Ohio Northern in the 13th minute when he took a pass from junior Jeremy Barnes and beat the goalie while falling down.

This was Bascom's team-high 10th goal on the season.

Volleyball wins 3rd tourney title of the year

The Ohio Northern volleyball team won its third tournament title of the season, claiming top honors at the OAC/HCAC Challenge witha perfect 4-0 record.

On Saturday, Northern (16-3 overall, 1-0 Ohio Athletic Conference) wrapped up the title with a 25-10, 21-25, 25-15, 25-21 victory over Hanover (Ind.) and a 25-15, 18-25, 25-22, 25-15 win over Mount Saint Joseph.

Freshman Ellie Gillespie pounded 29 kills, senior Ellen Grenert had 28 kills and senior Kelsie Zumberger dished out 85 assists in the two victories.

Against Hanover, Gillespie and Grenert each had 15 kills and Gillespie had a team-high 21 digs to lead ONU.

Law professor named co-chair of American Bar Association committee

Elena Helmer, Ohio Northern University assistant professor of law and assistant director of the Democratic Governance and Rule of Law program, has been appointed co-chair of the American Bar Association Section of International Law International Anticorruption Committee.

The American Bar Association (ABA) is the largest voluntary professional membership organization in the world. The ABA works to improve the administration of justice, promotes programs that assist lawyers and judges in their work, accredits law schools, provides continuing legal education, and works to build public understanding around the world of the importance of the rule of law.

Dinner-charity auction benefits Beacon of Hope Oct. 4

Community Health Professionals Hospice-Beacon of Hope invite Icon viewers to a dinner and charity auction held at Community Health Professionals of Ada, 1200 S. Main St., according to Deb Curlis.

The event is Thursday, Oct. 4. Dinner is served at 6 p.m. and the auction begins at 7 p.m. Dinner is catered by Anita’s Kitchen.

Tickets are $20 each or $100 for a table of six. The event includes both live and silent auctions. Marvin Ford is the auctioneer.

All proceeds benefit the Visiting Nurses and Hospice services of Community Health Professionals. The organization is a 501c3 and all donations are tax-deductible.

University conducts Drug Take Back Day Sept. 29

Ohio Northern University’s chapter of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) will conduct “Operation Drug Disposal,” a Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Drug Take Back Day, at the circle in front of McIntosh Center on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Working in conjunction with the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, Operation Drug Disposal is an effort to safely dispose of old or unneeded prescription and over-the-counter medications. The event is aimed toward students, staff and the surrounding communities in order to spread both awareness of proper medication disposal and the growing problem of prescription medication abuse.

Ada's Halloween schedule released

Several Halloween-related events are planned in October in Ada. In fact you can dress up three times in October.

Tuesday – Oct. 23 – Trick-or-treat on Ohio Northern University campus 5:30-7:30 p.m. Registration is at 5:30 p.m.

Thursday – Oct. 25 – Trick-or-treat night in Ada, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Monday – Oct. 29 – Ada downtown Halloween parade; during and following the parade will be pumpkin cookie decorating at ReStore.

Zac Dysert Day at Miami on Nov. 23

Zac Dysert Day is coming to Miami University and all of Ada is invited to participate. The Day is Friday, Nov. 23, during the Miami vs. Ball State football game. The time of the game is not yet announced.
