Rotary sponsors talk from member of French counter terrorism unit

Several Ada service organizations, hosted by the Ada Rotary will hear Maj. LeBlanc, who is a member of the National Gendarmerie, which is a branch of the French Armed Forces, in charge of public safety, with police duties among the civilian population. The meeting is at noon, Tuesday, June 26, at The Inn at ONU.

The GIGN (French: Groupe d'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale, English: National Gendarmerie Intervention Group), is the French Armed Forces' elite counter terrorism/tactical unit.

The ONU Alumni magazine highlighted members Bob McCurdy and John Berg for their ability to fail at retirement. McCurdy was also introduced as Man of the Year by the Sigma Pi Fraternity.

Elissa McCracken - Miss Ohio is an Ohio Northern University student

Ohio Northern University student Elissa McCracken was crowned Miss Ohio on Saturday in Mansfield. She will compete for the Miss America title in January 2013 in Las Vegas.

McCracken, 20, of Waynesburg, Pa., is a pharmacy major at ONU. She won the crown over 24 other contestants. As Miss Ohio she will receie a $10,000 scholarship from Newman Technology among other gifts. McCracken's platform is "stop cyberbullying."

Roger Tarr was a 1947 graduate of Ada High School

Roger I. Tarr, 84, died at 5:30 a.m. June 21, 2012, at Lost Creek Care Center, Lima.

He was born April 19, 1928, in Ada to Bernard E. and Cora Katherine Eberle Tarr Sr., who preceded him in death. On Nov. 13, 1948, he married Darlene Fitzpatrick, who survives in Ada.

Mr. Tarr worked at Wilson Sporting Goods, Ada, for 22 years. He retired in 1993, from Rockwell International, after 23 years. He was a 1947 graduate of Ada High School. He was an Ohio National Guard veteran during the Korean War.

Growing up, Cole Simon, a 2012 Ada graduate, couldn’t wait to become a Bulldog varsity football player. His senior year he got the chance to play on both offense and defense.

Cleora E. Schaller was member of Trinity Lutheran, Jenera

Cleora E. Schaller, 94, of rural Bluffton died at 7:15 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2012 
at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

She was born on Nov. 3, 1917, to the late Monroe "Roy" and Lona (Winkler)
Hoffer in Bluffton. She married Henry W. Schaller on March 22, 1941, and
he preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 1981.

She is survived by daughter, Joyce Schaller of Bluffton. Cleora was also

preceded in death by brothers: J. Frederick and Roy Hoffer and sister,
Rachel Huser.

She worked for and retired from Triplett Corporation in Bluffton. She
was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jenera.

Ada and Sugar Grove United Methodist Churches hold July VBS

Ada First United Methodist and Sugar Grove United Methodist congregations are going together for a summer Vacation Bible School in July. Dates are Tuesdays: July 10, 17, 24 and 31 at the Ada park. VBS is from 10 a.m. to12:30 p.m. Free lunches are provided.

Youth age 3 to fifth grade are invited. Preregister at Restore or by calling 419-634-4626 or register at the park the day of the event.

The VBS includes games, art, music and storytelling. There will be drawings weekly for free pool passes and other prizes.
