Patricia Ann Watkins, 1946-2012

Patricia Ann Watkins, 66, died at 9:34 p.m. April 20, 2012, at Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus.

She was born Jan. 30, 1946, in Harlan County, Ky., to Rossevelt and Louise Jones Crider, who preceded her in death. On April 20, 1985, she married Raymond Richard Watkins Sr., who survives in Ada.

Patricia participated in the family business, 1st Class Siding and Windows. She attended Crossroads Church of God, Lima. She was a member of Reunion Baptist Church, Knoxville, Tenn. Her favorite things to do were spending time with family, playing bingo and working in her flower gardens, and she loved going dancing.

ONU basketball coach takes assistant post at Duquesne

John Rhodes has stepped down as head men's basketball coach at Ohio Northern University to take an assistant coaching position at NCAA Division I Duquesne of the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Rhodes compiled a 39-41 record in his three seasons as head coach of the Polar Bears.

The search for a new head basketball coach is underway.

Robert C. Schmidt, 1920-2012, services Friday

Robert C. Schmidt, age 91 of Ada, died at 6:30 p.m., Friday, April 13, 2012 at his residence. He was born July 8, 1920 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is the son of the late John William and Marie Rose Wergers Schmidt. He married Doris Mae Kuehne who died February 17, 2007.

Memorial services will begin 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Ada.

Memorial contributions may be given to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Sealed bids will be opened May 14

Summer is on its way. The village of Ada is accepting bids for at least one summer project.

Sealed bids for lime sludge removal and disposal street maintenance program are now being accepted by the Village of Ada, according to James Meyer, village administrator.

The notice to prospective bidders went out April 12. Bids will be opened at noon, Monday, May 14.

Dr. Lawrence Kuk among speakers at April 21 heroin issues seminar

The Ohio Northern University Department of History, Politics and Justice, in conjunction with the ONU Public Interest Law Association, will host a seminar focusing on heroin issues on Saturday, April 21.

The event, a part of ONU’s Civil Engagement Series, will begin at 8:30 a.m. in ONU’s Pettit College of Law. The event is free and open to the public. Lunch will be provided.

Dr. Lawrence Kuk, Hardin County coroner, physician at Ada Area Family Practice and ONU student physician, and Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart will discuss Hardin County’s heroin issues.

Blanchard Valley Health Systems service of remembrance April 22

The 11th annual BVHS Service of Remembrance will be held at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 120 W. Sandusky Street in Findlay on Sunday, April 22, at 2 p.m.

The non-denominational memorial service will honor BVHS patients and residents who died in 2011. All are welcome to attend the service, which will be followed by a reception.
