ONU sells its FM radio license
Ohio Northern University has signed a purchase agreement to transfer its WONB-FM radio’s FCC license (94.9 FM) and sell the use of its broadcast tower to Holy Family Radio.
That story was recently posted on Radio+Television Business Report and confirmed by ONU.
The sale is pending. It is anticipated the process will take two to three months, according to the university.
The university is looking to transition from on-air to online broadcasting, which is more in keeping with how students today access and use digital media.
This transition will enable WONB’s programming to continue and will expand its ability to offer live streaming and podcasting, thereby enhancing the practical training students receive at the radio station.
WONB signed on the air in October 1991.
According to Radio+Television Business Report the buyers are the Greg and Leo Schroeder-led
Holy Family Communications, Inc., based in Leipsic. That company owns and operates WJTA-FM, 88.9 in Glandorf.
The Radio+Television Business Report states that WONB will become a simulcast partner of WJTA. According to the report, the sale price is $175,000.
