Parents of Ada School children and community members are invited to hear Kevin Hines at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the school auditorium. He will talk about thriving and surviving after a suicide attempt. He will have spoken to students earlier that day.
Hines has an inspirational story of treatment and recovery. He is an international speaker, author, and suicide prevention and mental health activist. He is author of "Cracked, but not Broken: the Kevin Hines Story."
There will be a discussion panel comprised of first responders and mental health professionals after the main speaker.
At 19 years old, Hines attempted to take his own life by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. The fall would break his body, but not his spirit. His story reminds us that living mentally well takes time, endurance, hard work, and support.
