Linda K. Long died in Piqua Nursing Home

Linda K. Long, 60, died at 9:25 a.m. Sept. 4, 2012, at Heartland of Piqua Nursing Home.

She was born April 14, 1952, in Lima to Raymond L. and Wilma Jean Hall Long, who preceded her in death.

Miss Long was an interior designer.

Survivors include a sister, Sue Tribbett, of Piqua; a nephew, Jeffery Tribbett, of Anna; a great-niece, Breonna Tribbett; and an aunt, Leah Staley, of Lima.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond E. Long; a sister, Katherine Hughes; a brother-in-law, Richard Tribbett; and an aunt, Marie Hawley.

ONU faculty participate in "Kossuth's Message" presentation at Bluffton University

Bluffton University will host a performance of “Kossuth’s Message,” marking the 160th anniversary of Hungarian statesman Lajos (Louis) Kossuth’s visit to America, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, in Yoder Recital Hall on the Bluffton University campus.

The presentation is Bluffton’s Constitution Day Forum. All educational institutions that receive federal funds are required to offer an instructional program each year on or near Sept. 17, the day the United States Constitution was signed in 1787.

Hardin County on drought-stricken farm disaster list

The U.S. Department of Agriculture granted Governor John R. Kasich’s request for a Secretarial disaster designation for 85 of Ohio’s 88 counties following the severe heat, rainfall shortages and other weather-related disasters that struck large areas of the state over the spring and summer. 

Counties on the list are Hardin, Allen, Putnam and Hancock.

Tractor show at Richland Manor Sept. 23

Richland Manor will hosts its annual Community Tractor Show from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept.23.

The Freed Center part of arts advocacy group planning to honor area artists

The Arts Advocacy Luncheon Planning Committee announces its first Arts Appreciation Day to honor one individual in each of the three Arts areas:  Creator, Advocate and Philanthropist.

The Committee includes representatives from The Lima Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Ohio Film Foundation, Allen County Board of DD, Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center, Council for the Arts, Lima City Schools Arts, ArtSpace and Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center.

Four score in ONU win over Defiance

The No. 4 Ohio Northern men's soccer team continued their great start to the season as they defeated Defiance College 5-1 in the opening match of the ONU Invitational at the ONU Soccer Field Friday afternoon.

Ohio Northern advances to 4-0-0 on the season while the Yellow Jackets of Defiance fall to     0-3-0.

The Polar Bears got off to a quick start as seniors Josh Green and Nate Bascom got touches on the ball before a pass to senior Cameron Johnson resulted in Johnson's fourth goal of the season in the 3rd minute of the game.
