Apollo board reorganizes for 2016; Ron Fleming, Ada board rep

Apollo Career Center’s board will reorganize for 2016 at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14, in the Apollo board room, according to Nancy Hilden, superintendent.

Ron Fleming is the Ada school board representative to the Apollo board. A board agenda is an attachment at the bottom of this story.

ONU women's basketball team now ranked 21st in D3

Ohio Northern University, the No. 21 ranked women's basketball team in Division III, defeated Marietta 92-49 Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center to improve its win streak to nine.

ONU improved to 11-2 overall, 6-0 Ohio Athletic Conference, while Marietta fell to 9-4, 3-3.

Northern was led in the contest by seniors Karissa Steffas and Brooke Espenschied. Steffas recorded a game-high 16 points and eight rebounds, while Espenschied scored eight points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

Senior Carly Thomas and sophomore Amy Bullimore also scored in double figures, chipping in 10 points a piece.

Amy Eddings Feb. 3 L.E.A.D. speaker in Kenton

Women L.E.A.D. presents "The Power of Risk Taking for Women Leaders." The speadker is Ada resident, Amy Eddings, former New York City public radio host of NPR's "All Things Considered" now owner of the Easter House Bed and Breakfast in Ada.

The program is from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Stephen McCullough Conference Room.

Eddings recently traded a career in radio in New York City to be closer to family in rural Ohio. While she is experiencing life from a different angle, she has undertaken the challenge of changing careers midlife, taking news risks and embracing change.

Powerball tickets hot items in cold January

Kenton Amateur Radio Club meets Jan. 25

The Kenton Amateur Radio Club will meet on Monday Jan. 25, at Henry’s Restaurant, 995 N. Detroit St., at the north edge of Kenton. Meal will be at 6 p.m. with the meeting to begin at 7 p.m. Anyone interested in amateur radio is welcome to attend.
