Margaret Zeller 1946-2016

Margaret A. Zeller, 69, died on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at 11:11 a.m. at her residence in Harrod, Ohio, after a long battle with cancer.

She was born on Nov. 4, 1946 in Fremont, Ohio, to Robert and Mary Hotz who preceded her in death. On July 26, 1969, she married Richard T. Zeller and he died on July 11, 2001.

Becky Spradlin 1974-2016

Rebecca A. “Becky” Spradlin, 41, died on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, at 10:24 a.m. at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

She was born on Sept. 16, 1974, in Kenton, Ohio, to Richard A. and Charmaine M. (McCulley) Spradlin. Her father preceded her in death and her mother survives in Ada.

Becky was a homemaker.

Becky is also survived by her two children: David Spradlin and Allison Howard both at home; a brother, Jacob (Amanda) Spradlin of Waynesfield; and three sisters: Rachel (Dustin) Spradlin of Kenton, Kristin Spradlin and Jessica Spradlin both of Ada.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Bethel Church of Christ seeks volunteers for ABC food packing event Jan. 30

An ABC (All Because of Christ) food packing event will be hosted at Ada school on Saturday, Jan. 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., sponsored by Lifeline Christian Mission and Bethel Church of Christ. 

Volunteers are needed to help package 7,000 macaroni and cheese meals for the Ada Food Pantry and 35,000 rice-based meals for the country of Haiti. It is estimated that 140 people will be able to accomplish this task in four hours.

There will be two shifts from 10 a.m to noon and from noon to 2 p.m. Volunteers are welcome for one or both shifts and families are encouraged to participate. Donations are also welcome.

Here's the junior high science fair superiors

Several Ada Junior High students and student teams received  superior ratings at Ada's Local Science Fair held last week. These students qualify to compete at the District Science Fair at ONU in March, according to Alayne Schrock, science teacher.

ONU women's bball team moves up to 11th in national poll

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team moved up five spots to No. 11 in the sixth weekly D3hoops.com Top 25 poll.

The Polar Bears received 313 points in the poll, the most this season.

Thomas More (Ky.) reclaimed the top spot with 625 points and all 25 first place votes, followed by Amherst (Mass.) in second with 593 points and George Fox (Ore.) in third with 577 points.

Ohio Athletic Conference foe Capital moved up six spots, claiming the No. 17 spot with 197 points.

Northern returns to action Wednesday evening as they welcome Heidelberg to the ONU Sports Center, tip off set for 7:30 pm.
