Lady Bulldog netters start 1-1

The Ada girls tennis team earned its first girls tennis win of the young season Thursday at Fostoria by the score of 4-1.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 1-1 with the win, while Fostoria dropped to 0-1.

Ada individual winners were seniors Meredith Marshall and Libbie Milks at first and second singles, respectively.

Marshall won easily 6-1, 6-0 while Milks recorded a three-set comeback victory by a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 count.

The Ada first doubles team of Callee Young and Samantha Crawford also captured a three-set battle 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

Bulldogs Paige Hopson and Melina Temple won at second doubles by forfeit.

Steven Allen 1953 - 2016

 Steven K. Allen, 63, died on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at 7:14 p.m. at Harding Pointe in Marion, Ohio.

Steven was born on April 21, 1953, in Lima, Ohio to Kash and Marlene L. (Mushaw) Allen. His mother preceded him in death. His father, Kash, and his step mother Patricia Allen survive in Alger.

He is survived by his guardian and care giver, Sheila A. (Martin) Morrison of Newark; and five cousins: Mary Belle Cunningham of Shaker Heights, Patricia Cameron of Perrysburg, Guy (Karen) Cameron of Maumee, Sharon Berry Vine of Raleigh Durham, NC and Richard D. Berry of Brookville, Ohio.

Larger than you thought

This Ada plant lives up to its name - Elephant ears

Some plants live up to their names, as in this case - Elephant Ears.

Here, Caroline Walker sits under the shade of the tropical plant while reading a book about kindergarten at Grandpa and Grandma (Tom and Cathy) Coburn's home on Falling Timbers Blvd.

Five-year-old Caroline began kindergarten this week.

What's the secret of growing such a large elephant ears plant in Ada? Cathy said the tropical plant likes to be watered daily. She said heat and humidity, which we have had this summer, are important, as well.

Incoming frosh welcomed to campus

Incoming freshman were welcomed to campus Thursday morning during Moving in Day.

Several hundred faculty, staff, and upperclassmen students were on hand to greet the new Polar Bears, help unload their cars, and answer questions.

Here, students welcome their new friends at one intersection. Small groups of students cheered at every intersection near campus as the frosh and their parents drove in.

Orange and black cupcakes were handed out, as well. Once near their assigned residence hall, people were on hand to unload their possessions, show them to their rooms, and explain the events of the next few days.
